Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

UNICEF works in close collaboration with the government and partners to achieve results for children and adolescents to ensure by 2027, children including adolescents, specially the most vulnerable have equitable access to and participate in quality gender responsive learning and skills development opportunities within a safe inclusive learning environment. UNICEF education programme for adolescents is focusing on the reinforcement of foundational skills in early adolescents and skills for life, work and sustainable development to empower and support adolescents’ transition from school to post-secondary learning and work. UNICEF focuses on increasing adolescents’ access to quality skilling opportunities through its focus on ‘skills for life, work and sustainable development’ in schools with links beyond school, leveraging YuWaah partnerships and initiatives to expand skill development for them into the school or help them access alternative, flexible learning solutions to maximize their opportunities for a better future.

Under the direct supervision of the Education Specialist, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

I) Assist work related to “Skills for life, work and sustainable development together with career guidance for young people in-school • Provide support on planning, implementation and monitoring of Education Output 3 and YuWaah in-school activities for: content, implementation and impact – in collaboration with 21st century skills related collaboratives, stakeholders from government, civil society and private sector. • Design a system for managing recommendations, suggestions and challenges from the field and partners • Liaise with UNICEF state offices where P2E or UPSHIFT activities are implemented with YuWaah partners to identify and mobilize technical expertise • Support the preparation of scalable proposals from solution partners • Create and maintain an active network of field colleagues, civil society organisations and partners through regular interactions (calls and meetings) • Support in regular project tracking as per the signed agreements to generate evidence on partner contributions • Develop a matrix to aggregate field results as contributing to Output 3 and YuWaah goals.

II) Innovation • Support in identification and finalisation of innovative, scalable solutions related to the thematic area • Apply/introduce innovative approaches to enhance career guidance, promotion of 21st century skills, digital learning for young people, for the delivery of sustainable results at scale • Research and suggest on best international practices to be explored for possible adaption in India.

III) Knowledge Management • Contribute to development and dissemination of newsletters, documentation of meetings • Develop/collect case studies and human-interest stories from partners. • Prepare weekly and monthly status updates on Education Output 3 activities • Contribute to regional and global bulletins as requested. IV) Advocacy and Communications - report and inputs for proposal writing • Support in preparing public advocacy material, programme and project status reports • Contribute to the planning and review of the Education Output 3 annual work plans and other strategic and programme documents • Assist in drafting briefing notes, talking points, funding proposals, presentations and donor reports.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

New Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region is a large and bustling metropolis of some 14 million people undergoing rapid changes. The capital city is an administrative, cultural and commercial center with modern amenities and well connected by air. It is a safe place with large expatriate community drawn from embassies, UN agencies, MNCs and foreign businesses. It has short moderate winter and long hot summer. Transport options include the metro rail, buses, radio cabs, autorickshaws etc. There are different phone networks available (fixed and mobile) and internet access is easy. However, to obtain a phone connection you are required to submit a photo and valid ID proof. The electricity network is 220 volts. Delhi is in security phase zero (0), so there is no security

concern at this moment. Although English is generally used for official and business purposes, Hindi is the official language and is spoken by most of the people. Punjabi and Urdu are also commonly spoken.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in New Delhi. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.

The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment.

The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents - except for UN Community Volunteers), as well as final repatriation (if applicable). In addition to duty station specific vaccine requirements, appointments are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the appointment. It does not apply to UN Volunteers who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their contracts.
