Overview

Manage project operations efficiently and in compliance with UN rules.

You have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A first-level university degree in finance, accounting, business administration, public administration, or a related field is desirable.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in working with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is required.
  • Proven experience in organizing large inter-governmental meetings is required.
  • Experience in finance is considered an asset.
  • Prior experience working with the United Nations or international organizations is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment is required.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
  • Professionalism is required.
  • Teamwork is required.
  • Planning and Organizing skills are required.

Result of Service

The compliant, timely, and efficient financial, legal, and logistical management of project operations. This ensures rigorous budget and contract monitoring in strict accordance with UN rules, flawless execution of meeting and travel logistics, and the accurate maintenance of audit-ready project documentation.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of UNEP's Industry and Economy Division is to support decision makers in government and engage with industry and the finance sector to use strong scientific evidence to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production including circular economy, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making industry and environment policies mutually supportive. The Division promotes the development and adoption of policies, technologies, economic instruments, investment decisions, business practices and other efforts which enables to address the environmental challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and land degradation, and pollution while advancing economic and social objectives. See http://www.unep.org This position is located at the Nairobi duty station in UNEP's Industry and Economy Division under the Materials and Systems Innovation Unit. The Materials and Systems Innovation Unit leads the formulation and implementation of UNEP's work programme with the aim of bringing together data, science, and knowledge networks in the area of sustainable materials management, circular economy and life cycle thinking to support governments and engage industry and finance actors to develop relevant policy and practices. The incumbent will provide high-quality administrative, financial, and legal support to ensure the compliant, efficient, and timely implementation of project activities. The role aims to safeguard institutional integrity by aligning all contracts, budgets, travel logistics, and documentation with UN rules and regulations while optimizing operational support for project partners and stakeholders.
