Job Description

SCOPE OF WORK: The Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and implementing early childhood and middle school youth programing. The goals of this program are to reduce barriers refugee families face in accessing early childhood education and increase caregiver resources through Parent as Teacher curriculum. The program also provides middle school refugee students with opportunities to build skills in progressing towards their goals through individualized service plans. Under the supervision of the Youth Program Coordinator, mentors will equip middle school youth with social emotional assets, guide them in their academic pursuits, and support the family as they navigate their new academic environments. Program coordination includes robust partnerships with local schools, licensed childcare providers, and community organizations. The Youth Program Coordinator reports to the Youth Program Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Team Management

- Work with the Volunteer Coordinator and Social Work Field Placement Coordinator to train, manage, and oversee mentors who are Master of Social Work interns. - Hold individual weekly supervision of the Early Childhood Navigator, Youth Program Specialist, and interns.

Service Coordination and Partnership Development

- Serve as a focal point in the community for referrals of early childhood (ages 0-5) and middles school students. - Oversee enrollments and assign cases to program staff.

- Expand and nurture middle school partnerships through engagement with faculty and staff to better connect students to school resources such as afterschool tutoring, counseling and extracurricular activities. - Develop community partnerships with licensed childcare providers to further support caregiver access to affordable childcare. - Design and implement Early Childhood Parent as Teacher services including workshops and curriculum, which directly contribute to positive outcomes for families with children aged 0-5. - Collaborate with the other internal departments to ensure youth and families have access to additional IRC services.

Program Monitoring

- Asses the quality of practices implemented, ensure program outcomes are met, and report relevant data to funders. - Monitor case notes, files, service plans, and progress with students and caregivers. - Ensure compliance with requirements of the program, including IRC policies and procedures, donor guidelines, the IRC Way and Child Safeguarding.

Program Development

- Research and identify ways to integrate evidence-based and innovative methodologies for working with vulnerable youth and early childhood.

- Actively participate in monthly Youth Communities of Practice calls.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Undergraduate or master’s degree in the educational field or social work preferred or equivalent work experience - 2 years of experience working in refugee resettlement, early childhood, youth development, or in an educational setting. - Program and people management experience. - Cultural sensitivity/excellent cross cultural communication skills. - Creativity and initiative to independently lead projects. - Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to lead workshops caregivers. - Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel. - Comfortable conducting home visits. - Available to be on call three weekday evenings between 5:00 - 7:30 pm - Valid driver’s license and insurance. - Proficiency in Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Burmese, Kiswahili, Spanish, French or other relevant languages highly desirable. - Ability to be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
