**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Education Sector (ED) Duty Station: Paris Job Family: Education Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 1 to 6 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 21/09/2021 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- The Section for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 Leadership facilitates and supports the organization’s mandated role in leading the Education 2030 Agenda. In so doing, the SDG 4 Leadership Section works with diverse constituencies, international partners and networks to reinforce global cooperation to support the implementation of collective commitments to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning for all. A renewed Global Education Cooperation Mechanism (GCM) was endorsed at the 2021 Global Education Meeting and aims to bring countries and international partners together around shared priorities in more agile, efficient and aligned ways to accelerate progress towards SDG 4. The new GCM puts forward a remodeled SDG4-Education 2030 High-Level Steering Committee (HLSC) which will serve as the global education body, consisting of a “Leadership Group” at Ministerial or Head of Agency level and a “Sherpa Group”. A dedicated Inter-agency Secretariat hosted by UNESCO will support the functions, activities and meetings of the HLSC and other GCM Forums / Platforms. A newly created SDG 4 Youth network will serve as the youth and student constituency from which the youth and student representatives to the HLSC will be selected. Long Description ---------------- Under the overall guidance from the Director of the Division for Education 2030, and the Chief of Section of SDG 4 Leadership, and the direct supervision of the relevant Programme Specialists, the incumbent will support youth engagement, community building and organization of the SDG4Youth Network on the following tasks: 1\. Network organization and community building - Support the conceptualization and implementation of the SDG 4 Youth ToRs, workplan and timeline, and the youth engagement/community-building strategy, adjusting as needed. - Serve as link to the SDG 4 Youth network of members, advocates, and supporters, creating space for discourse and consultation for the network to thrive; Bringing a systems lens to ensure diversity and inclusion of youth and student representation - Develop and strengthen the clearing house function of the SDG4Youth network on youth and education opportunities, including actively setting up communication platforms, initiating discussions and serving as the moderator (2-5 posts per day) within the network on its platform(s) (Teams, Slack etc.) - Identify and support youth members to actively lead on different workstreams, and developing community and admin guidelines to support active youth members with a view to ensuring that the platform remains a safe space for all youth. Long Description ---------------- 2\. Strengthen partnerships and linkages with global youth and education initiatives - Support planning and consultations with key internal and external partners to ensure that the SDG4Youth network is connected to existing initiatives. - Engage key partners, where possible, to get their buy-in on the development of the network and supporting the SDG 4 Team in securing broad support at each step of the process. - Collaborating with UNESCO Education Sector and external resource persons specialized in Global Citizenship Education (GCED), Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), and Youth Skills and TVET related initiatives to develop the content and the programme of the Youth Working Groups; connecting the Working Groups to major education events while ensuring that the work goes beyond each event. - Identify joint programming and fundraising opportunities 3\. Nomination process of the SDG 4 Youth Representatives - Support the nomination plan for the creation of the inaugural SDG4Youth Representatives Group. - Develop and deliver monthly/quarterly capacity building programs to equip SDG4Youth Representatives and network members (where possible) with leadership (advocacy, negotiation, policymaking, community organizing, facilitation etc.) skills necessary to communicate their interests and positions at high-level education forums. - Consult network members to propose a nomination process that is youth-led and inclusive, while ensuring that it is effective and efficient. Visibility and branding of the SDG4Youth initiative - Engage in media outreach activities on traditional and digital/social media to raise visibility for the network and disseminate key messages about the Network’s work as well as relay key GCM messages to a youth audience - Support the creation of youth developed content (social media posts, vlogs, blogs, op-eds) for use on UNESCO and GCM channels, as well as to pitch to external media - Identify joint youth advocacy opportunities with other initiatives and campaigns 5\. Work Experience: - No less than two years of experience in youth engagement, social media and/or community management with at least 1 year at the international level. Skills and competencies: - Ability to draft and communicate ideas and concepts, clearly and concisely, in written and oral form - Demonstrated ability to work innovatively with minimal supervision and in a self-motivated manner. - Ability to manage a high volume of work, keep deadlines and produce quality work under pressure. - Good knowledge of and commitment to the SDGs, especially SDG 4. Languages: - Fluency (written and spoken) in English **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- Education: - A Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field Skills and competencies: - Solid global and regional youth organization contacts and demonstrated experience networking and facilitating youth-led discussions - Familiarity with team collaboration tools (Cloud-based platforms) and experience with design applications (e.g., InDesign / Adobe Creative Suite / Canva) is a plus. - Familiarity with the functioning of international organizations in the field of education Languages: - Good working knowledge of other UN working languages is an asset. **APPLICATION PROCESS** ----------------------- The incumbent is not required to work in France to apply for this opportunity.
