Result of Service The Individual Contractor will be responsible for the following:

  • Initial design and mock-up upon projects inception
  • Progress reports indicating the fulfilment/progress of requested tasks and projects
  • Final Sourcecode/Design/Images/Animations and all assets related to implemented projects
  • Technical documentation and user manual for deployed websites

    Expected duration 6 Months

    Duties and Responsibilities Under the overall guidance of the Chief, ICTS, and direct managed by the team leader of the Web and UI/UX unit, with technical guidance and supervision from the UX/UI team lead, the contractor will perform the following tasks:

- create the look, layout, and features of a website in attractive professional graphic design in an intuitive, user-friendly style and design collaterals; - develop frontend for websites using UN established standards for web development, IT technologies, programming languages and tools; - interpret user requirements and translate these into systems specifications; - analyze and advise on innovative web-based solutions; - prepare technical and user documentation for deployed website, application systems, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations; - maintain functional specifications for websites, programs and procedures developed and/or modified; - provide support for deployed websites including version management, data recovery and deployment; - organizes and performs unit and integrated testing, designing and using test bases; - support digitization, visualization and development of infographics for various products; - trains staff on completed systems/applications.

Qualifications/special skills A Bachelor's degree in computer sciences or related area is required.

All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. No previous work experience is required. Knowledge of web development in a multi-developer environment (HTML, Cascading Style Sheet (CSS), and any JavaScript dialect/frameworks) is required. Knowledge of Responsive design, creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows site maps, rapid prototyping, cross browser web development for IE, Firefox, Safari and Chrome, Mobile design, contant management (e.g. Drupal), and version control (e.g. Git) is desirable.

Languages Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.

For this position, fluency in English is required.

Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
