How can you make a difference?

UNICEF is seeking candidates for the position of WASH Project Officer at the NO-1 level at the UNICEF Pacific Office based in Suva, Fiji. The WASH Project Officer works under the supervision of the Chief of WASH and support the overall WASH programme particularly in contribution management of the entire WASH programme funds and supplies throughout the planning and implementation, and results monitoring and reporting process.

The vacancy is a maternity leave backstop for 6 months with a possibility of extension based on programme needs.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  1. Ensure programme funds are effectively monitored for optimum use, drafting and maintaining programme budgets, developing standardized unit costs, and tracking country-specific implementation and utilization through the work planning process.
  2. Ensure the availability of accurate, complete and up-to-date information required for budget and invoice monitoring and effective utilization.
  3. Analyze collected data and information and prepare financial and related programme KPI reports; draft changes in WASH project work plans and assist in the identification of required supplies and equipment (for both development and emergency orientated activities).
  4. Ensure the appropriateness of financial, administrative and supply documentation; verify that WASH programme expenditures are within allotments and that data is consistent with the programme information and database.
  5. Conduct orientation to relevant partners and the Pacific WASH country teams in budget monitoring and reporting to ensure compliance with UNICEF and office procedures.
  6. Assist in managing and monitoring WASH supplies and ensuring field offices meet deadlines on prepositioning and distribution supplies and orders

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advance University degree in Office/Project Management, Business Administration, Finance and/or Accounting with two years of professional work experience in the above-mentioned fields or a first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional financial management experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree
  • Additional training/certificate in general project management is an asset.
  • Knowledge of UN and UNICEF operational/financial procedures and fund management tools are significant assets.
  • Previous UN or other international development organization, private sector or national government is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.
