Expected duration Contract period will be for a initial period of 6 months with a possibility of 3 month extension, subject to satisfactory performance.

Duties and Responsibilities The purpose of this vacancy notice is to establish new roster of Vehicle Technicians as Individual Contractors with MINURSO. Under the direction of the supervisor of the main transport workshop and in accordance with a duty roster, the International individual contractor is responsible for the following duties:

  • Operation of Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE), such as but not limited to; fork lifts, Telescopic handlers, truck mounted cranes, Chassis mounted hook lifts (PLS) and wheeled cranes as required to perform vehicle maintenance tasks.

  • Operation of wheeled engineering plant equipment (such as Graders, Vibratory Compactors, Backhoes, Front End Loaders) for maintenance purposes.

  • Operation of recovery vehicles to include straight bar and suspended towing methods.

  • Assist the workshop in maintenance of trucks and plant equipment, including tyre repairs I replacements both in Laayoune and in the other MINURSO locations.

  • Proven ability to use different welding and cutting tools and methods is essential.

    Qualifications/special skills Skills: Preferably 6 years post qualification experience as vehicle technician on heavy trucks / plant equipment. Knowledge of hydraulic systems and use of cutting and welding techniques. Academic Qualifications: Post Secondary Technical qualification in Mechanical engineering or related subject. Experience: 5 years experience in hardship locations in areas such as Saharan Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan. Experience as heavy recovery mechanic is essential including use of different vehicle recovery techniques. Language: English is the primary language used in MINURSO. Applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Technical terms used when describing vehicle faults and conducting risk assessments.

Knowledge or ability to use another language such as French, Spanish or Arabic would be advantageous.
