Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The Communications Division communicates UN Environment's core messages to all stakeholders and partners, raising environmental awareness and enhancing the profile of UN Environment worldwide.

The User Experience Designer (UI/UX) will be working under the overall supervision of the Head of design.

Key Tasks - Create Visual Designs: The Designer shall create and develop website layouts, designs, and content which shall include the creation of “Look-and-Feel” using visual design basics to create strong designs in line with the proposed visual identity. - Sitemap and sketching: The Web Designer shall create and deliver the sitemap and wireframes of pages to serve as a blueprint for the required system. During this process, all key pages and modules inside shall be taken into consideration while creating the sitemap, showing their relationship to each other and defining how the overall navigation should be structured. The wireframes shall be provided by the incumbent to highlight the recommended detailed view of the content that will appear on each page. They shall represent a guide for defining content hierarchy on the page; - Template designs: upon approval on the sitemap and wireframes, the incumbent shall create and deliver at least 2 responsive template design proposals. These templates shall include but not limited to the following elements defined by web team: interface design – look and feel, colours, font sizes, pages (or sections) header and footers, pages titles, style sheets icons, buttons, tables, popup windows styles, related graphics and images. General template compatibility guide: o Chrome 7.0 and higher; o Safari 5.0 and higher; o Opera 9.5 and higher; o Firefox 3.0 and higher; o IE 7.0 and higher; o All mobile browsers/OS; o All screen sizes in portrait and landscape layout. - Prototype: upon approval on the selected template, the incumbent shall prepare the prototype; this will serve as an online like website using the template and guidelines defined in the template design. At this stage, the Designer will be responsible for delivering all materials (design files, html, vector, etc…) to the division.

Duties and Responsibilities: - Lead design projects across the entire product lifecycle and multiple product launches, setting the vision for the user experience and creating the space for the team to collaborate. - Design visually-engaging digital products including single-page applications, microsites, and feature stories - Iteratively optimize the navigational systems and templates of UNEP’s external websites - Iteratively create and refine visual elements on UNEP’s websites to optimize user experience for key audiences - Participate in the revamp of UNEP’s corporate websites including information architecture new design and UX, usability testing - Develop and maintain a design system to be used by all UNEP offices and partners - Work with teams of account managers, editors, designers, developers and production specialists on multiple web projects - Provide advice and recommendations on best practices, standards and tools in digital design and UX - Communicate design approaches to a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: High school education or equivalent is required. Specialized technical studies in graphic arts/design with a diploma or certificate are desirable. Experience: A minimum of 7 years' experience in digital/interactive design; developing Information Architectures (e.g. site mapping, gap analysis, IA design strategy, wire-framing); using dobe XD, Sketch, InVision, Zeplin and other wireframing and prototyping tools’ is an asset; working with and contributing to design systems is desired; Deep knowledge of cross-platform usability standards and UI specifications is a plus; knowledge of standards for web accessibility is preferred. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy position fluency in English is required.
