UNV WASH/Climate Change Officer

Eligibility criteria
Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.
Description of task
Under the direct supervision of the WASH Regional Advisor, the national UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
Provide technical support to Country Offices (COs) in the region on climate, energy and environment (CEE).
- Provide support to COs as they roll-out multi-sectoral CEE actions in WASH, Youth Engagement, Education, Health, Nutrition, and Social Policy sections.
- Support in the development of climate-related funding proposals within the region.
- Participate in global and regional technical coordination discussions on CEE.
Support knowledge management actions around climate, energy and the environment within the MENA region.
- Coordinate UNICEF regional and global advocacy points and inputs into the annual COP climate conference.
- Support the documentation of evidence, best practices and lessons learned within the region.
- Coordinate the regional review of the global WASH in Health Care Facilities Call to Action, in close coordination with WHO.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of the UNICEF regional water scarcity accelerator including, amongst other actions, supporting the implementation of the regional high-level event on water scarcity.
- Additional deliverables will be decided upon discussions with the UNV upon his/her deployment, based on expertise and interest of the UNV and the evolving needs of the WASH team.
Qualifications/Requirements
Required degree level:
Bachelor degree or equivalent
Education - Additional Comments:
University degree in one of the following fields: Environment, Climate change, International cooperation or another relevant technical field (e.g. Water resource management), is required.
Required experience:
24 Months
Experience remark:
- At least 2 years of relevant professional work experience at the country or international levels in areas related to climate change adaptation and mitigation, environment and socio-economic development.
- Desirable: Understanding of global climate financing instruments, national government climate and environment pollical landscape, global climate and environment frameworks and accords.
- Familiar with children's rights and gender in the context of climate change adaptation and mitigation. Knowledge of gender equality principles and gender sensitive programming.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
- Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
- Language skills: fluency in English and Arabic is required.
