Result of Service NZECA will serve as an instrument to engage leading export credit institutions in clear and ambitious climate change mitigation commitments and catalyze transition to low-carbon economy. The Alliance would be coordinated by a Secretariat hosted by UNEP FI, comprising key leaders of EXIMs and ECAs with a climate policy mandate and in close collaboration with the Berne Union and E3F, representatives of respective authorities and leading scholars.

The role of the NZECA Senior Project Manager includes the wide spectrum of functions within the Secretariat, including support to the Programme Supervisor and the Secretariat Lead, support to the current and prospective members, planning and coordination of the Secretariat activities (including development of operational and methodological documents, planning of communications, planning of meetings and other events, periodic reporting, coordination of the Secretariat’s work), liaison with members and other stakeholders including coordination with other net-zero alliances.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

The overall objective of the UNEP’s Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities.

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 400 banks, insurers and investors. For over 28 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions. Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI promotes sustainable finance and helps the financial industry align with and contribute to the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals.

The Net Zero Export Credit Alliance is a new project endorsed jointly by UNEP FI and the Innovation and Knowledge Hub at the University of Oxford. UNEP FI will support the project through hosting the Alliance Secretariat and needs a consultant to coordinate its establishment and further work on all various requirements including operational procedures, methodological work, coordination with other net-zero alliances, communication with prospective memebrs and other relevant stakeholders etc.

UNEP FI needs a consultant to coordinate establishment and operation of the new Net Zero Export Credit Alliance.

In line with the joint work programme with the Innovation and Knowledge Hub at the University of Oxford and in close cooperation with the Programme Supervisor and the Secretariat Lead, the consultant will carry out the following project tasks as shown below in 3.2 below.

  • Develops and ensures implementation of the Work Plan;
  • Monitors and analyzes project development and implementation; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions;
  • Develops, in coordination with other team members, methodological and operational materials for the Alliance;
  • Plans and coordinates production of communication and outreach materials;
  • Develops reporting formats and coordinate production of periodic reports and other outputs;
  • Liaises with ECAs, governmental authorities and other stakeholders;
  • Supports hiring process for additional experts to the project;
  • Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
  • Coordinates activities related to budget and funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports;
  • Performs other duties as required.

    Qualifications/special skills A University degree in finance, environment, sustainability or a related field. At least seven years of working experience in sustainable finance, climate change, environmental management; experience in project management and working in international environment. Experience of working with export credits is highly desirable.

    Languages English is the working language of UNEP FI. Knowledge of another UN langauge is an advantage.
