Result of Service The ultimate result of the service will be the development, delivery and dissemination of the Grounding paper on environmental pollution liability insurance which is an activity item in the DB Insurance Donor Agreement.

Work Location Working remotely

Expected duration The expected duration will be 4 months. Working Part-Time 75%.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

The overall objective of the UNEP’s Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities.

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 400 banks, insurers and investors. For over 28 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions. Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI carries out its mission to help the financial industry align with and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and with that take on the crucial role it must play in achieving a sustainable future.

Purpose /Justification for request: - UNEP FI signed a Donor Agreement with DB Insurance in October 2019. The consultant will contribute to the implementation of the Donor Agreement, specifically coordinating the development of the Grounding paper on environmental pollution liability insurance. - UNEP FI currently does not have the internal capacity to undertake these activities, and hence outside expertise is required for this purpose.

Objectives: To assist UNEP FI Korean signatories to implement their respective sustainability plans and to encourage non-signatory institutions to join.

Expected outputs: - Members and potential members in Korea are provided timely and sufficient support from UNEP FI secretariat. - Inactive members are engaged. - Members in Korea informed and engaged in UNEP FI’s sustainable finance agenda and activities through the effective use of UNEP FI public and member-only websites, as primary communication tools. - Members are informed of key information including Korean member activities and major policy developments on sustainable finance in Korea, have access to Korean translated materials, event announcements, and any other useful information such as UNEP FI governance and administration. - Secretariat updated on members’ sustainable finance news and monitor information on members and potential members. - Support PRB signatories for implementing and maintaining commitment to the principles. The support includes organising regular meetings to update Korean PRB members and increasing the availability of tools, materials and webinars in Korean languages. - On a request basis, support the UNEP FI secretariat to reach out to Korean members. - Participate in information sharing with the other UNEP FI Regional and National Co-ordinators to align the Korean Workplan with other regional and national activities and improve - Information sharing and collaboration undertaken with partners and key stakeholders including relevant industry associations, Ministries, PRI, etc and in relation to the enabling environment for sustainable finance and market leadership in Korea.

Specific tasks and responsibilities: - Support the development and execution of an agreed work plan in Korea including, contributing to Korean elements of Asia Pacific work plan. - Contribute to the implementation of UNEP FI’s strategies and work plan for 2022, including engaging members in the global and regional work programme, supporting communications, knowledge-sharing on country-specific priorities, awareness raising of sustainable banking/insurance investment developments and facilitating peer-to- peer learning. - Undertake outreach to engage Korean members and non-member financial institutions on opportunities to be involved in UNEP FI projects and activities. - Support translation and dissemination of outputs where required and respond to requests from Korean signatories, increasing UNEP FI visibility, membership retention and growth in Korea. Support the effort to improve the efficiency of translation both in volume and quality by introducing translation solutions. - Monitor the involvement of members, by tracking the number of activities, workshops, and working groups that members from Korea take part in through their involvement in the FI global work programme. Track which members have participated in which UNEP FI activity and engage with those who have been inactive. - Inform UNEP FI Secretariat of relevant members’ news. - Contribute updates to regional web page and add and update Korean members’ profiles and latest sustainability reports on UNEP FI website. - Maintain contacts list for Korean members and update status of pipeline of potential members.

The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the Head UNEP FI and report directly to the Asia Pacific Region coordination Manager in UNEP FI Administration Unit.

Qualifications/special skills Skills & knowledge: Proven skills in building and managing relationships with a variety of private and public stakeholders. Ability to work in a multicultural environment. Proven knowledge in the fields of sustainable finance and the environment; financial services sector, knowledge/experience of the regional context. Ability to cope with comprehensive work programmes, multiple projects and activities in an organized and timely manner.

Academic Qualifications: Master’s degree in economics, finance, environmental studies, international relations, business administration or related fields.

Experience: At least three years of work experience, especially in international organisations, the financial services sector, private sector or NGOs examining the intersection between sustainability and finance.

Language: English is the working language of UNEP FI. Knowledge of other United Nations languages are an asset. Fluency in Korean is required for this position.
