Organizational Setting

UNNUTRITION:

UN Nutrition is the UN inter-agency coordination and collaboration mechanism for nutrition at the global and country levels.

Through UN Nutrition, UN agencies, programmes and funds leverage their collective strengths, build synergies, increase efficiencies and complementarities, and ultimately support governments and partners to deliver results on nutrition objectives and targets at all levels, from national to sub-national. The merger of the UN Network for the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement and the UN System Standing Committee on Nutrition (UNSCN) to form UN Nutrition was formally announced at the ECOSOC Management Segment in July 2020. The merger is in line with the ambitions set out by the UN Reform and with Recommendation 7 of the ICN2 Framework for Action. The UN Nutrition Secretariat has been operational from 1 January 2021 and is hosted by FAO

Reporting Lines

The KM and communication consultant reports to Executive Secretary, UN Nutrition Secretariat.

Technical Focus

Knowledge management and communication.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Knowledge Management (KM):

  • Organise UN Nutrition webinars, events and/or meetings to bring diverse perspectives and support dynamic knowledge exchanges across country, regional and global levels.

  • Liaise with country UN colleagues, for country lessons and to bring country voices to global and regional events.

  • Communication:

  • Liaise with UN colleagues and others in the nutrition community and consult multiple sources to prepare periodic newsletters.

  • Draft joint nutrition messages/positions in consultation with UN member agencies to be amplified at key events.
  • Draft strategic communications, including talking points for the UN Nutrition Chair, Executive Secretary, UN Resident Coordinators, etc. to support their engagement in key nutrition-related events.
  • Support SUN advocacy and communications efforts, and ensure alignment.
  • Develop and upload content for the new UN Nutrition website, liaising with web developers, graphic designer(s) as well as

UN Nutrition colleagues.

  • Liaise with SUN Movement Secretariat (SMS) to update information about UN Nutrition on the SUN website, drafting content as needed.
  • Promote UN Nutrition visibility for example by developing and updating UN Nutrition communication materials, the coordination of the exhibition and dissemination of UN Nutrition materials at major nutrition events, etc.
  • Oversee the translation of UN Nutrition products into required languages, as needed.

  • Reporting:

  • Contribute to UN Nutrition reporting to several stakeholders, both UN and beyond.

  • Contribute to donor reporting.

  • Perform other duties, as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree in one or more of the following disciplines: nutrition public health, agriculture, food security, nutrition political science and/or other development issues.Advanced university degree in nutrition/public health preferred.
  • Five years of relevant experience in a relevant field of work, with a background and interest in nutrition and nutrition-relevant sectors.
  • Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of one of the other FAO official languages (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese or Russian).
