Organizational Setting

This position is located in FAO Representation to Pakistan, based in Islamabad. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural , fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative and Assistant FAO Representative in Pakistan, the direct supervision of Crop/Seed Advisor, the main task of the Officer be to support conceiving and development of agricultural programme/portfolio. Under the aforementioned responsibility, the specific tasks will be as follows;

Technical Focus

  • Help design agricultural crop production management and related interventions in project formulation
  • Prepare knowledge management documents

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Prepare concept notes and funding proposals for possible funding for the potential donors

  • Act as a knowledge resource for the FAO Pakistan in the crop sector equipped with latest data and knowledge

  • Prepare knowledge products related to agricultural and other related fields
  • Prepare case studies and extension material for the target population in FAO projects
  • Organize workshop and seminars related
  • Contribute to needs assessment and analyses of the overall status of the crop sector;
  • Assess training needs and identify and impart different types to beneficiaries, and implementing partners, and accordingly prepare/adapt/source material;
  • Provide technical assistance to all crop related project activities in implementation undertake other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in crop sciences preferably agronomy or horticulture
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in the relevant discipline
  • Working knowledge of English (Level C) and Urdu is required, and knowledge of other local languages is an asset.
