OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Global Tuberculosis Programme (GTB) leads and guides the global effort to end the TB epidemic through universal access to people-centred prevention and care, multisectoral action and innovation. GTB specifically: 1) provides global leadership to end TB through strategy development, political and multisectoral engagement, strengthening review and accountability, advocacy, and partnerships, including with civil society; 2) shapes the TB research and innovation agenda and stimulates the generation, translation anddissemination of knowledge; 3) develops policy options, norms and standards for TB prevention and care and facilitates their implementation; 4) provides specialized technical support for Member States and partners, working with WHO regional and country offices to catalyse change and build sustainable capacity; and 5) monitors, evaluates and reports on the status of the TB epidemic and progress in financing and implementation of the End TB Strategy at global, regional and country levels.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Generic duties In the context of knowledge sharing tools and mechanisms, to: 1.Identify gaps, overlaps, opportunities and possibilities among the thematic issues across the entire Department, drawing on own expertise and that of technical specialists working in the various teams and units. 2.Propose and developtechnical delivery strategies forimplementation, providing advice on the area of expertise. 3.As and when required, represent the Department and or the Director internally and externally, serving as the technical reference point among the peer community and within WHO and external interlocutors. 4.Perform all other related duties as assigned. Specific Duties 1.Develop knowledge sharing tools and mechanisms to facilitate adaptation of global policies, norms and standards on tuberculosis at country level. 2.Provide expert advice and guidance on implementation of new knowledge sharing platforms and tools for workforce capacity building within the context of strengthening strategies and plans at the national level. 3.Monitor uptake and impact of knowledge sharing platforms and tools developed by the Department globally and in high burden countries to optimize existing tools and to inform the development of new tools. 4.As and when required, support the development of funding proposals for the development of knowledge sharing platforms and materials for use at country level.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Advanced University degree (Masters) in Educational Sciences, or a related area. Desirable:

Experience

Essential: A minimum of 7 years in the development and design of training materials and training courses. Desirable: Previous experience working with WHO and (ideally) across the three levels of the organization (headquarters, regional and country levels.Experiencein designing TB specific training materials/curricula.

Skills

1) Proven track record in designing electronic training courses for multiple audiences (global, regional, country level) that consider latest adult learning principles; 2)Proven track record of designing face-to face training courses that consider latest adult learning principles;3) Experience in designing trainings for trainers;4) Knowledge of options for interactive learning within various types of software commonly used for the development of learning materials;5) Ability to work independently and under pressure; ability to multi-task and problem-solve;6) Ability to think and operate “outside-of-the-box”, with a sensitivity to spot gaps, overleaps, opportunities and to formulate approaches addressing these;7) Excellent communication and presentation skills. Desirable 8) Knowledge of TB prevention, care and control, as well as relevant WHO guidance documents (End TB Strategy and WHO TB-related policies and guidelines).9) Familiarity with existing WHO training platforms.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 75,602 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 5160 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
