OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Regulation and Prequalification Department (RPQ) works with Member States and partners to improve the access to essential medicines and other health technologies of assured quality, safety and efficacy or effectiveness. RPQ works within the Access to Medicines and Health Products Division (MHP) division departments in the wider framework of Universal Health Coverage and category 4 of the General Programme of Work and cooperates with disease-oriented programmes (among other HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, reproductive health, maternal and child health, immunization, NCDs and mental health) towards the Sustainable Development Goals. The department works with a wide range of UN organizations, international partners and expert networks, and WHO Collaborating Centres.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

  1. The incumbent will be required to establish links with the Member States, lead working groups within the Member State Mechanism, coordinate their work, facilitate meetings and teleconferences and assist in the preparation of documents.
  2. Support the steering committee and full meetings of the Member State Mechanism.
  3. Maintain the MedNet online and other platforms dedicated to the work of the Member State Mechanism.
  4. Support the work of the SF Global Monitoring and Surveillance System, receive and respond to reports and assist in the preparation and delivery of training as necessary.
  5. Engage in advocacy and awareness raising in relation to SF medical products as necessary.
  6. Collaborate in the delivery of improvements and refinements to existing systems within the team.
  7. Assist in maintaining the relevant WHO website pages on SF medical products.
  8. Assist in the coordination of donor reporting as assigned by the team lead.
  9. Responsible for leading ISF team projects as assigned by the team lead including SF awareness and risk communication campaigns, smartphone reporting apps and national action plan implementation at country level.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: University degree in Public Health Studies, Pharmacy, Medicine, Law, International development, or related field. Desirable:

Experience

Essential:

  1. A minimum of 5 years' experience in health-related organizations, including experience with a National or Regional Medicines Regulatory Authority.
  2. Specific experience of handling SF medical product related incidents, or managing SF medical product related programmes.

Desirable:

  1. Experience of working overseas in a health-related field or working on international programmes.
  2. Previous experience of working in, or closely with, an international organization.
  3. Previous experience of engagement in high level advocacy.

Skills

  1. A high level of motivation, initiative, flexibility and sense of responsibility.
  2. Good communication skills with internal and external stakeholders of all nationalities and cultural backgrounds.
  3. Demonstrated ability to compile complex written reports in a clear and concise manner, tailored to the needs of the intended audience.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 62,692 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 4018 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
