OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The IVB Department's mission is ‘To promote the health and well-being of all people, in all countries, by advancing the impact of vaccines and immunization programmes through partnership and leadership; policies and guidance; evidence and research'. Our work is aligned with the WHO 13th Global Programme of Work (GPW13), with a central focus to drive impact in countries, to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being at all ages. The Strategic Objectives of the IVB Department include:

  1. Establishing global immunization agendas, strategies and policies to build and harness commitment to action;
  2. Promoting research and innovation to increase the impact of vaccines, technologies and immunization practices;
  3. Advancing evidence-based introduction and access to vaccines and immunization innovations;
  4. Optimizing immunization delivery to ensure high-impact, sustainable and equitable programmes;
  5. Harnessing Vaccine Alliances and Partnerships, including collaborations with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and key WHO partners, towards cross-programme coordination and collaboration in pursuit of universal health coverage;

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Working closely with the Global Access, Team Lead and IVB Director, refine, update and implement the Global COVID-19 Vaccination Strategic Vision by:

Updating technical analysis including costing and programmatic feasibility, supply requirements and availability, country goal setting, health and economic impact modeling in collaboration with the SAGE WG on COVID-19 vaccines, WHE, and other relevant Departments at HQ and regional level.

Prepare regular consultations with SAGE, regional offices, key partners (IMF, WB, Gavi, UNICEF, WTO, CEPI) including consultation plan, materials, follow-up.

Develop necessary tools for implementation and monitoring of Global Strategic vision such as updating of existing key dashboards and analytics.

Project management support the COVAX Allocation workstream by: Represent IVB in the Joint Allocation Taskforce (JAT) and Independent Allocation Vaccine Group (IAVG) meetings, providing technical and strategic input as required* Provide technical expertise in the design and adaptation of the Allocation Algorithm including updating coding and models used in coordination with other JAT members.

Coordinate input and linkages on Allocation questions with relevant COVAX groups such as Country Readiness and Delivery group and with other IVB.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Advanced university degree (Masters level or above) in management, engineering, mathematics, public health or related field. Desirable: PhD; Knowledge of WHO mandate and goals.

Experience

Essential: At least 7 years of professional experience in data analysis, model development, and strategic project management involving research and developing recommendations on policy and operational decisions. Some demonstrated experience working on projects with international reach.

  • Written and oral communications skills with the ability to apply communication techniques to translate highly technical information into presentations, briefings across partners, and provide a credible response to inquiries;

  • Strong interpersonal relationship practices, ability to work as a part of a team, and ability to meet and engage with persons of diverse backgrounds in a multicultural environment;
  • Ability to function with a high level of autonomy at work, willingness and ability to take responsibility yet with profound team spirit.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 74,913 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 5194 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
