OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The SDG3 GAP brings together 13 multilateral agencies to better support countries in recovering from the impact of COVID-19 and get back on a track to achieve the health-related SDG targets by 2030 through a closer collaboration of the agencies. The SDG3 GAP is one of the initiatives under WHO's transformation agenda and is directly linked WHO PB Output 4.2.1 on strengthening WHO's ability to provide leadership on the SDGs and partner with others. The Secretariat of the SDG3 GAP is situated in the Office of the Chef de Cabinet in the DG Office and supports, coordinates and monitors the implementation of the SDG3 GAP within WHO, working closely with relevant technical units and the regional offices, and across the signatory agencies.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

As part of the SDG3 Global Action Plan Secretariat team and under the guidance of the Senior Technical Officer, the incumbent will contribute to WHO's leadership on SDG3 and support the implementation of the SDG3 GAP. The incumbent will:

  • Support the roll-out and implementation of the SDG3 GAP monitoring framework, including on the development of country case studies, based on the engage, accelerate, align and account commitments in the SDG3 GAP;
  • Support activities related to programming in the SDG3 GAP Secretariat;
  • Contribute toward a stronger institutionalization of the SDG3 GAP within WHO by liaising closely with other departments, regional offices and relevant programmes;
  • Support overall coordination across the different accelerator and other workstreams of the SDG3 GAP, the preparation of and follow-up to of Principals'/focal points meetings and broader stakeholder management;
  • Ensure coherence in internal and external communication on the GAP by overseeing the production of SDG3 GAP communications outputs and ensuring the appropriateness and coherence of messaging;
  • Participate in the analysis of challenges and develop solutions on how best to engage with multilateral partners and make use of multilateral fora and processes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: A first university degree in social sciences, business administration, international relations, law, public health, communications or related field of study. Desirable: An advanced university degree (Master's level or above) or diploma in social sciences, business administration, international relations, law, public health or communications.

Experience

Essential: At least five years of experience in international relations, public health and or the international development arena, supporting the coordination, management and monitoring of multi-partner initiatives, of which at least two years at the international level. Experience in programme management. Desirable: Experience in the UN or other international organizations. Familiarity with the global health ecosystem, WHO, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and working closely with senior leadership.

Skills

Additional Competencies : overall attitude at work, technical expertise. Ability to work in complex, politically sensitive environment. Good knowledge of international global health and development issues.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 62,120 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 4519 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
