Technical Assistant (GS-5 level) Medical Devices Unit Health Technology Centre, UNICEF Supply Division

Supporting child survival and development programmes around the world, UNICEF-procured supplies are critical in providing for children’s health, education and protecting them from abuse, exploitation and neglect.

This position is located in the Technical team of the Medical Devices Unit within the Health Technology Centre in UNICEF Supply Division, reporting to the Technical Specialist. The core function of the Technical team is to ensure that the Medical Device product portfolio procured and supplied by UNICEF is safe, fit-for-purpose and meets the required quality standards.

How can you make a difference?

The key role of the Technical Assistant is to research, compile, organize and analyze technical information as well as manage and maintain all aspects of technical documents and products. The Technical Assistant will be working in a collaborative team environment to support technical specialists in translating program product needs into procurement specifications, developing product technical requirements, drafting list of invitees, and assessing product dossiers during public tenders.

In addition, the Technical Assistant is responsible for maintaining a database containing quality certificates and test reports for contracted products and the verification of the authenticity and validity of quality certificates and test reports submitted during tender procedures.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

• Drafts, prepares and finalises product specifications on basis of existing documentation, directives and customer requirements. Translates specifications with expert help if necessary. Communicates with country offices and suppliers to obtain all necessary clarifications. Assists countries on technical related matters and seeks expert advice when required. • Screens incoming requests for supply and advices on appropriates of the items, realistic quantities, alternative options, and any other considerations with regards to the requested products.

• Drafts product technical cards for Supply Catalogue database and ensures that all product specifications are kept up to date in the material master, hosted in our ERP system (SAP). Proposes creations and amendments to materials within the range of commodities under their responsibility directly in the material master database. • Maintains technical dossiers of qualified supplier profiles, prepares lists of qualified suppliers for sourcing and tendering as support to Contracting function for further action. • Assists in monitoring product performance, technical suitability appropriateness and durability on basis of information collected from country offices. Investigates deviations in partnership with Quality Assurance Centre and Customer Services and Field Support Centre (CSFS). • Validates and authenticates submitted quality and market clearance certificates, test reports, and other quality related documents. Maintains a database for these documents and timely informs technical specialists with regards to expiring documents, or any other issues related to validity and authenticity. • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor including secretarial functions and attending to all routine work in his/her absence.

Required: • Valid work permit and residency in Denmark at the time of submitting the application. Note that the selected candidate is responsible for obtaining any required extension of their residency permit as an extension cannot be dependent on an employment with UNICEF. • Completion of secondary education • A minimum five years relevant working experience, preferably in a position with exposure to medical devices and/or international certification for medical devices and/or quality management systems. • Experience in procurement processes for goods, preferably medical devices and/or equipment. • Knowledge of SAP, and proficiency in Microsoft Office package, Word, Excel and Power point • Fluency in English

Desirable: • Technical level courses in medical devices or related areas • Proficiency in another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish).
