Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Security Council Subsidiary Organs Branch (SCSOB) of the Security Council Affairs Division (SCAD), Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, United Nations, New York. SCSOB provides support to subsidiary bodies established by the Security Council, particularly Sanctions Committees and groups/panels of experts who assist them in overseeing sanctions regimes. The incumbent will report directly to a Senior Political Affairs Officer and support the Panel of Experts established pursuant to resolution 1874 (2009) concerning the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Responsibilities Responds or drafts responses to routine correspondence and other communications; Uses standard word processing package to produce a wide variety of large, complex documents and reports; Monitors processes and schedules related to the unit's outputs, products, and tasks; Where applicable, assists in the verification of receipt and accuracy of requisite documents, approvals and signatures to ensure compliance with relevant legal, financial and other requirements; Researches, compiles and organizes information and reference materials from various sources for reports, work plans, briefings, meetings/conferences, and other outputs of the Committees or the Panel of Experts; Generates a variety of standard statistical and other reports, work orders, etc., using various databases; Proofreads documents and edits texts for accuracy, grammar, punctuation and style, and for adherence to established standards for format; Screens phone calls and visitors; Responds to moderately complex information requests and inquiries (e.g. answers requests requiring file search), and as necessary, refers inquiries to appropriate personnel for handling; Provides secretarial, administrative and logistics support to meetings and other events of the Committees and the Panel of Experts; Assists in the maintenance of websites by scanning, converting and posting a variety of documents onto the site; Assists in the preparation of presentation materials using appropriate technology/software; Maintains calendar/schedules; Monitors changes and communicates relevant information to appropriate staff inside and outside the immediate work unit; Performs data entry and extraction functions; Reviews, records, distributes and/or processes correspondence and other documents; follows-up on impending actions; Updates and maintains large distribution lists; Monitors, prepares and distributes various materials, reports, where possible using electronic formats; Handles arrangements for printing and translation as necessary; and coordinates other logistical and administrative arrangements; Performs general administrative tasks (including leave and attendance recording, arrangements for meetings and other events, reservations, budget follow-up, and others), to include preparing and/or processing administrative requests/documents (including requisitions, purchase orders, travel requests, contracts, expenditure authorizations and visa applications); Maintains files (both paper and electronic) and databases for the Committees and the Panel of Experts; Assists in providing software and office equipment support; Performs a range of office support, administrative functions and other duties as assigned.

Education High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the field of conference-servicing, or administration, or related area is required.

Experience with administrative policies, procedures and practices for an international organization is desirable.

Experience in organizing/arranging travel of officials is desirable.

Experience operating and maintaining databases and document management systems is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based.
