You have:

  • Advanced University degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications or related field.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Work experience in human rights, journalism, or communications.
  • Sound judgement in applying expertise to complex or sensitive issues.
  • Fluency in English, excellent writing & speaking skills in English (spoken, public speaking & presentation).
  • French & Portuguese an asset.

UNV Online Volunteers will develop a work plan with their supervisor, taking into account their skills and experience. Responsibilities will include (but not be limited) to:Increasing the visibility of the regional office and OHCHR’s southern Africa sub-regional field presences in terms of activities and results; Support internal and external communication, including the production of newsletters, contributions to UN magazines, human rights interest stories, articles and weekly/monthly updates; Promoting ROSA’s products and advocacy materials; Supporting the regional offices outreach initiatives, including supporting the hosting of webinars and virtual meetings; Preparing for the office’s media engagements; Participate in UN communications group; Support communication campaigns, develop public information materials, enhance brand recognition, and promote knowledge and awareness of OHCHR’s mandate and work.     UN Online Volunteers will support the OHCHR Regional Office for Southern Africa in fulfilling its mission: develop and contribute to implementation of the Communication and Outreach Strategy; strengthen communication capacity of the project’s beneficiaries and recipients; enhance stakeholders’ engagement and increase awareness on their work on human rights issues;

  • 20+ hours per week / 26 weeks
