Duties and Responsibilities The Department of Operational Support was established to provide operational advisory services to operating entities across the Secretariat, including other departments, offices away from headquarters, field missions, and regional commissions.

This position is located in the Headquarters Client Support Service (HQCSS), Division of Administration, New York, Department of Operational Support (DOS). The Individual Contractor will report to the Human Ressources Officers and the Head of the Non Staff Desk.

Within limits of delegated authority, the individual contractor will perform the following duties:

  • Provides general office support services to help ensure the smooth functioning of an organizational unit.
  • Uses standard word processing package to produce a variety of routine correspondence, reports, tables, charts, etc., in accordance with institutional standards.
  • Reviews, records or other documents; gathers pertinent background material; tracks and monitors follow-up action as required.
  • Maintains files (both paper and electronic) and databases for work unit.
  • Scanning and archiving of classifications, recruitment and staff working files.
  • Performs basic data entry and extraction functions.
  • Photocopies a variety of documents and other materials.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of office equipment in the performance of basic office functions, e.g. photocopier, facsimile, printer, scanner, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/special skills Experience: Experience in general office support or related area is desirable. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

    Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
