Technical Focus

The preparation of a study to structure intermediate cities in the Legal Amazon, diagnosing weaknesses and proposing actions for their strengthening as development poles, as provided for in the objectives of the Brazilian Regional Development Policy – PNDR, including: 1) identification of the requirements for the structuring of intermediate cities in the priority cities listed in the Brazilian Regional Development Policy – PNDR; 2) mapping of the current status of the cities listed by the Ministry of Regional Development (MDR), taking into account the requirements previously set out; 3) identification of weaknesses in the economic and social conditions of these cities, considering the previously defined requirements and situation; and 4) proposal of a government action plan to encourage public and private investment to structure these cities as development poles.

Tasks and responsibilities

  1. Identify of the requirements for the structuring of intermediate cities in priority macro-regions of the Brazilian Regional Development Policy – PNDR.
  2. Map the current situation of the cities prioritized by the Amazon Regional Development Plan, taking into account the requirements defined in activity 1.
  3. Identify existing economic and social inadequacies in these cities, considering the previously defined requirements (activity 1) and the current situation (activity 2).
  4. Propose a government action plan to encourage public and private investments to structure these cities as development poles.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING:

Minimum Requirements

  1. Doctorate in humanities or social sciences.
  2. Minimum experience of 5 (five) years, after obtaining the doctorate degree, in the preparation of studies and/or technical works in the area of regional and/or urban development.
  3. Advance knowledge of English language
  4. Brazilian Nationality or other legally authorized to work in Brazil

    Technical/Functional Skills

  10. At least one technical publication in the land management field, related to regional and/or urban development and highlighting the role of medium-sized cities for regional development Knowledge about traditional agricultural systems in Brazil or in other countries.

  11. Degree in Economics, Geography or Urbanism with specialization and/or experience in the area of regional and/or urban development and/or land management.
  12. Published and/or executed works involving the statistical manipulation of databases and the construction of models.
  13. Experience in international technical cooperation projects.
  14. Experience in coordinating multidisciplinary teams in the Federal Government.
  15. Scientific and/or technical articles in the field of regional and urban development published.
