Job Description

At work today in over 40 countries, the IRC aims to restore safety, dignity, and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. In response to the arrival of refugees in Greece in 2015, the IRC has been offering SMS, WASH, and Protection Services. Among others, through its child protection programs, the IRC has been offering individual support through case management to vulnerable children and their families, non-formal educational activities for children through Safe Healing and Learning Spaces, and emergency accommodation and protection to unaccompanied children.

SCOPE OF WORK: We are looking for a Social Worker, under the mentorship and supervision of the Sr Livelihoods Manager, the Livelihoods Manager, and the Sr Livelihoods Officer, will provide psychosocial support to young adults between 18-21 years old in the form individual counseling sessions and group sessions (psycho-education, etc.) Will conduct the first intake and registration to the project and supports the participants with accessing public services and social benefits. Will also ensure that beneficiaries are referred to relevant services (job counseling, psychological sessions, etc) and receive the appropriate services to develop their skills and their potential. The successful candidate, collaborates fully with the education officer, and other staff members of the support team, for the provision of quality and integration activities, as well as with various external service providers.

Key responsibilities:

• Ensure that beneficiaries of the project receive individual case management support by conducting assessments, action plans, direct psychosocial service provision, referrals, and follow-ups,

• Act as a reference person for an assigned number of beneficiaries and follow up on their progress;

• Ensure the beneficiaries are enrolled in formal and non-formal educational, recreational, and integration activities as appropriate;

• Along with the other team members, organize structured, group skills-building sessions to enable beneficiaries to enhance and/or develop their life/soft and transition skills;

• Organize group activities and group thematic sessions in cooperation with other IRC staff members;

• Ensure that beneficiaries receive the appropriate services and proactively cooperate with the IRC Livelihoods department and external service providers for the provision of job readiness training and transition planning;

• Proactively identify any behavioral changes or issues the beneficiaries might have and complete the appropriate referrals to the psychologist or other external specialized services, as needed;

• Ensure effective communication with relevant state and non-state stakeholders, such as UN agencies, Prefectures’ social services, other Integration actors and NGOs, and other IRC programs;

• Communicate regularly with other Livelihoods staff for updates on achievements and challenges identified with beneficiaries;

• Keep all case management files updated and secured, according to the Data Protection and Information Sharing Protocols in place;

• Complete all reports in a timely manner;

• Participate in case conferences, working groups, ad hoc workshops, and thematic training when required;

• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the beneficiaries and enable and develop IRC programs.

Requirements:

• Technical diploma or degree in social work, including a license to practice and registration in the Association of Social Workers of Greece.

• Minimum of 2 years experience in social work, case management, and provision of psychosocial support to women and unaccompanied children, ideally in humanitarian or development settings;

• Previous experience in institutions/ shelters/accommodation schemes highly desirable;

• Previous experience in integration/livelihoods projects is highly desirable;

• Fluency in Greek and English is required;

• Proven understanding of working with women/children/ persons with disabilities;

• Personal qualities: Great teammate, adaptable, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure well and work in a cross-cultural setting;

• Understanding and sensitivity to the needs of people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures;

• Strong sense of personal integrity;

• Strong negotiation and coordination skills;

• Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task while working in a fast-paced environment;

• Cultural awareness and ability to establish relationships quickly with a wide variety of people;

• Digital literacy: Knowledge of MS Office, Internet, Outlook, and proficiency with new technologies required.

Other:

• Must complete a criminal background check.

Work environment:

Working hours: 9:00 –17:00

Travel and other requirements: Occasionally to other areas of IRC programs within Athens.
