This role is located within the Technical Unit of the Medicines and Nutrition Center (MNC), Supply Division. Through applied technical, contractual and operational expertise, MNC provides timely access to affordable medicines and nutrition products that are safe, efficacious and of good quality to support routine health programs in program countries as well as to respond to health needs in humanitarian emergency contexts.

How can you make a difference?

Under close supervision and technical guidance of the Technical Specialist/Technical Manager, establishes and implements technical standards and guidelines for key programmatic medicines and nutrition products procured by UNICEF on behalf of UNICEF programmes and procurement services partners:

  1. Develop product quality and safety specifications in consultation with programme colleagues, external partners and key stakeholders.
  2. Develop standards for data analysis and planning, i.e., product specifications, quantities and budgets, among other. Provides support to optimization and capacity development projects.
  3. Develops the facilitation and communication with UNICEF Programmes, Supply Division Centers, UN agencies and NGO partners on related technical matters.
  4. Oversees technical databases, that includes but not limited to SharePoint, Material Master, Web catalogue data bases, etc.
  5. Focal point for online, sharepoint and communication resources, ensuring dissemination, monitoring with responsible persons within the unit, center and cross center. keep track of clarification questions and make sure that they are timely addressed.
  6. Act as a focal person for ensuring that all product specifications are kept up to date in the material master. Ensures creations and amendments to materials within the range of products under relevant technical area.
  7. Develops platforms and researches to support the technical manager in bringing new products to UNICEF product portfolio.
  8. Keeps abreast of programme requirements and prepares technical bulletins for publication.
  9. Act as a focal person for maintaining technical aspects of the qualified suppliers’ profile. Prepares lists of potential pre-qualified suppliers for requisitions and forwards it to the Contracting Centre for purchasing action.
  10. Drafts, prepares and finalizes complex product specifications on basis of analysis, research and compilation from existing guidelines, documentation, directives and customer requirements. Translates specifications with expert help if necessary.
  11. Sets high standards to consistently communicate with country offices, procurement services partners, other stake holders and suppliers to obtain all necessary clarifications.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary education
  • Additional training in pharmacy/pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent
  • Very good working knowledge of medicines and related pharmaceutical products.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical regulatory work, quality assurance of pharmaceuticals, and/or manufacture of pharmaceuticals.
  • The ability to use all current job-related computer software, internet navigation and databases for day-to-day work and market research.
  • The ability to keep abreast of technical developments, industrial practices, new markets, new programmes
  • Fluency in English

Desirables:

  • Working proficiency of SAP software
  • Proficiency in another UN language (French and/or Spanish)

    NB: EU nationals and applicants in possession of a valid work permit for Denmark by the time of applying are eligible to apply.

General Service (GS) staff are personally responsible for any travel and accommodation arrangements and UNICEF will not cover any costs related to relocation.

Note that the selected candidate is responsible for obtaining any required extension of work permit/residency as such an extension cannot be dependent on an employment with UNICEF.
