ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The Food Security Information Network (FSIN) is a multi-partner initiative co-sponsored by FAO, IFPRI and WFP for exchanging knowledge and best practices on food security and nutrition analyses. Its Secretariat is based in the Research, Assessment and Monitoring (RAM) Division, located at WFP Headquarters in Rome, Italy.

The FSIN Secretariat uses a consultative and consensus-based approach to facilitate the production of analytical food security publications and to support the strengthening of country and regional capacities for data collection, analysis, and decision-making.

The FSIN Steering Committee comprises representatives from FAO, IFPRI, WFP, and more recently, FEWS NET and the Chair of the IPC Steering Committee.

JOB PURPOSE

The FSIN Global coordinator leads and supports the development and implementation of the FSIN initiative. S/he provides oversight and technical leadership to 3 main work streams:

1- FSIN facilitates the production of analytical reports related to food crises (eg the annual Global Report on Food Crises and updates). 2- FSIN oversees technical working groups on food security and nutrition, in line with the production of various publications. 3- FSIN Secretariat also provides support, upon request, to the Global Network against food crises that aims to foster global strategic dialogue to strengthen collaboration and coordination in responding to food crises.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

• Provide effective team leadership of FSIN Secretariat, through overall management support, coordination and technical oversight

• Manage delivery of FSIN support services, provide quality assurance and timely production of outputs

• Lead knowledge building initiatives and research, development and production of FSIN-related capacity-building and communication products

• Provide technical and policy advice to countries and regional bodies in the development and implementation of food security and nutrition information system;

• Represent FSIN at international/inter-governmental meetings and conferences. Advocate for strategic partnerships, best practices, innovations and increased policy dialogue

• Develop and cultivate constructive and sustainable relationships with global and regional stakeholders (UN agencies, NGOs, donors and academia), advise on and promote synergies and linkages with other initiatives and networks (e.g. Integrated food security Phase Classification/Cadre Harmonise, Global Network against Food Crises)

• Report quarterly to the FSIN steering committee on progress against plans, agreed outputs and challenges, in line with established management and oversight arrangements

• Lead and/or participate in resource mobilization activities.

• Take responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives in all areas of work, to ensure equal participation of women and men

• Perform other related duties as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and skills:

• Minimum of 11 years of relevant experience, at least 4 of which is an international organization, and is recognised as a food security expert in the community • Has demonstrated experience in managing and promoting multi-stakeholder initiatives with key food security and nutrition stakeholders, • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining partnerships with international and regional partners, with proven ability to balance competing interests and to broker consensus. • Strong writing, editing, analysis, and communications skills. • Proven background as a published author, preferably in the field of Food Security • Demonstrated ability to build and lead a team and create an enabling work environment

Languages:

• Fluency (level C) in English language. Knowledge of French is an advantage. • Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, and/or Portuguese (a WFP working language)

Education: • Advanced University degree in Economics, Food Security, Social Sciences, Statistics, Data Science or Public Health/Nutrition (Master or PhD).
