The aim is to underline the importance of studying chemical pollution of bathing and recreational waters, and to motivate European decision makers to include this parameter in the new version of the Bathing Water Directive of 2023.

In the context of the upcoming revision of the European Bathing Water Directive, Surfrider Foundation Europe is working on the development of a European map on which are indicated the cases of chemical pollution of bathing areas and recreative waters since 2006. It is a big work of research on the Internet but also of collection of testimonies. If it was easy to find information on cases of chemical pollution in France or in Spain, we are struggling to find cases for other European countries.

Your mission would be to do this bibliographical research for the water masses in Germany. The goal is to find as many cases as possible in order to complete the map.

For each case of chemical pollution identified, we retrieve the following data (when the information is not available, we note "NC"): - the date of the chemical pollution on the bathing area/water activity (e.g.: an oil slick was spotted on a beach on XX/XX/2010) - the nature and cause of the chemical spill (e.g. oil released during a fire on a boat) - the impact on the environment and human health (e.g. - red patches on bathers - XXX dead fish) - the solutions brought (ex: - the city council organized a cleaning of the beaches, - XXX filed a complaint against XXX)

We thank you very much for your precious help
