Job Description

Your responsibilities

Within the Beams department (BE) the Controls Electronics and Mechatronics (CEM) group is responsible for the research, development and operations of a fleet of robotics systems used for inspection, maintenance and repair tasks. Such systems require complex systems engineering to ensure their operation readiness, including aspects from motor configuration, electrical connections, battery status, network configuration, onboard computers, onboard software and the user interface.

This position is focused on the Identification and Automation Analysis of Robotics Equipment for the FCC Accelerator Facility.

Specifically, you will:

  • Identify key robotic equipment across the entire FCC accelerator facility, expanding beyond the current focus on the tunnel area.
  • Compile a comprehensive list of equipment and requirements for all facility sections.
  • Analyse the optimal level of automation from an economic and technical perspective, considering the state-of-the-art robotics technologies and align with FCC's availability and operational goals while covering the full life cycle of the FCC, from the operational phase to eventual dismantling.
  • Determine the most efficient and cost-effective automation strategy to support the facility's long-term success.
  • Identify key robotic equipment across the entire FCC accelerator facility.
  • Analyse the economically desired level of automation.
  • Define automation levels during entire FCC lifecycle.

Your profile

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
