Online volunteers will be researching gender based violence (GBV) in Papua New Guinea, specifically focusing on the causes and underlying ideologies of GBV. Volunteers will be expected to collect a variety of sources (academic, peer reviewed articles, newspaper articles and statistics) about the causes of GBV in Papua New Guinea and provide jot note summaries of key ideas, facts and findings from each source. Online Volunteers will be researching specific topics in groups. Online volunteers will be working with other Online Volunteers to conduct this research and organize information. They will use shared Google Docs to list their sources and a summary of each source.

  • Gender equality and the advancement of women

    The Morobe Development Foundation Inc. (MDF) is an organization committed to community development. MDF focuses on women empowerment and challenges women face in Papua New Guinea. This research would contribute to MDF's literature review of the causes of gender based violence in Papua New Guinea. This research and review would provide a comprehensive overview of causes and ideologies contributing to gender based violence and policy recommendations to address these issues.

  • Volunteers: 10 needed

  • 1-5 hours per week / 10 weeks

    This task requires highly developed research skills. Candidates should be familiar with how to find and identify reliable sources. We recommend candidates working on this project have at least a Bachelor of Arts degree. Suitable education fields/ specializations would be in the areas of anthropology, sociology, gender studies and women's studies. Experience researching social justice issues in Papua New Guinea would be a great asset.
