The Position:

The post of Regional Security Specialist is located in the Arab States Regional Office (ASRO) in Cairo, Egypt, forms an integral part of the management team, and is being supported by the office. Reporting to the Chief, Office of the Security Coordinator (OSC), on security policy and technical matters.

The Regional Security Specialist (RSS) will primarily focus on supporting the Regional Director, Deputy Director, Country Representatives and managers with their responsibilities for implementation of the United Nations and UNFPA security policy, and in-country security and contingency plans in conjunction with the United Nations Department for Safety and Security (UNDSS).

Monitor Security Risk Management Measures (SRMM), former MOSS, and Residential Security Measures (RSM) compliance, by proposing security cost-effective and pragmatic solutions to enable UNFPA programmes and projects to be delivered in a safe and secure manner.

Advocate for mainstreaming and integrating security risk management in all programmes and operations. For the support role and related deliverables, the RSS will report to the relevant Directors.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

Advanced university degree in Social or Political Science, law or public administration or equivalent formal training in Security and Risk Management, Conflict Analysis, Diplomatic Studies, or relevant technical field;

Knowledge and Experience:

• Seven years’ command experience in security management field, including at international coordination level; • At least two years’ field experience as United Nations Field Security Officer, Chief Security Officer or Agency Security Officer; • Direct experience in the United Nations Security Management System with proven management and crisis management capabilities; • Knowledge of UN Security Management System, practices and procedures.

Languages:

• Oral and written proficiency in English and Arabic required. Knowledge of other UN languages an added asset;
