Organisational Background

In Somalia, the World Food Programme provides food assistance for nutrition, livelihoods, and relief through the hard work of more than 500 employees who contribute to make Somalia hunger-free in close partnership with local partners.

This position is open to qualified Somali candidates only. Female candidates are encouraged to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Programme Associate under the direct supervision of Head of Programme (Garowe) , overall supervision of Head of Area Office and Technical Guidance from Head of Nutrition will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide technical support and assist in the development and implementation of various activities and processes within the specific area of work supporting alignment with wider programme policies and guidelines.
  • Provide specialized project management support to specific and/or defined programmes to ensure that the various activities are performed within the established targets.
  • Prepare a range of reports and data analysis (e.g. food assistance needs, resource utilization, programme status, performance) and highlight trends/issues ensuring deliverables adhere to corporate standards and quality control.
  • Conduct accurate and timely data recording for the nutrition programmes and ensure consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with functional unit to support effective collaboration, implementation and monitoring of ongoing project activities.
  • Coordinate and connect with local partners, agencies, NGOs and government institutions to perform accurate food security analyses and to ensure efficient delivery of food assistance.
  • Support the capacity building of WFP staff, cooperating partners and national government within the specific technical area.
  • Act as a point of contact for resolution of a range of operational queries and problems within a specific technical area of responsibility.
  • Coordinate and/or review the work of other support staff, providing practical advice and mentorship.
  • Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP is able to quickly respond and deploy needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis.
  • Other related duties as need arises.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Secondary school certificate. A post-secondary certification in Nutrition, International Health & Nutrition, Public Health & Nutrition Policy and Management, Family Health & Nutrition or Food Technology is required.

Experience:

  • At least two years of experience working in nutrition and other development sectors as indicated above.
  • Good knowledge and working experience with the government and various other sectors.
  • Experience in supporting programme monitoring and implementation
  • Experience in supporting capacity strengthening of governments and non-government organizations.

Language:

Proficiency in both oral and written English and Somali language.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong organizational skills, time -management and ability to carry out multiple tasks successfully.
  • Good knowledge and practical experience in data record keeping, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Proficient in MS Office Excel.
