Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Centralized Warehousing Section (CWS) of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS). The property Disposal Officer will be based in Mogadishu and reports to Chief Central Warehouse Section.

Responsibilities Responsibilities

Within the delegated authority the Property Disposal Officer shall carry out the following functions:

-Supports Chief of Section in administration and control of the Section in his/her capacity as Chief of Unit; -Plans and organizes the disposal of written-off property, hazardous waste and some commodities representing a risk to the environment and enforces safe and secure practices to avoid any pollution or contamination; - Plan, organize, and execute the disposal of United Nations property in compliance with hazardous waste produced by the mission, in a proper environmental manner and in compliance with national policies and laws. -Supervises the execution of disposal agreements ensuring quality control in accordance with the international and local environmental standards; -Coordinates with Procurement on the preparation of disposal contracts and services for the disposal of property through sale, trade-in, destruction, etc.; -Drafts statements of work for new property disposal contracts and approves requisitions for contracts and services; Manages property disposal contracts; -Liaises with Technical Units to receive and dispose the written-off items as per the recommendations of the Director Mission Support (DMS), Local Property Survey Board (LPSB) or Headquarters Property Survey Board (HPSB); -Oversees the preparation of periodic performance reports in line with the UNHQ and mission’s performance requirements, reviews and ensures accuracy of data; Prepares auditable statistical reports for the management in the mission and UNHQ; Drafts correspondence as required; -Formulates and evaluates the projects for the Property Disposal Unit; -Drafts and compiles Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs) and flow charts in the area of property disposal; Maintains accurate property disposal documentation; Manages disposal-related records in Umoja; Identifies solutions to the problematic areas related to property disposal; -Provides support in the preparation of Preliminary Assets Disposal Plan (PADP) and liquidation activities; -Prepares and submits proposals for specialized training courses and is responsible for the overall professional development of the property disposal staff; -Supervises and evaluates performance of property disposal staff; -Performs other duties as required.

Education High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification Technical training in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Property Management, Property Disposal, Property Control, Assets Management, Inventory Management, Project Management, or related fields is desirable.

Work Experience A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant progressively responsible experience in property management, property disposal, property control, asset management is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to 5 years for the candidates who possess a first level university degree.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For the post advertise fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Somali language is an advantage.
