The programme "Building Effective Resilience for Human Security in the Caribbean: The Imperative of Gender Equality and Women Empowerment in a Strengthened Agriculture Sector" is a joint initiative being implemented by the United Nations (UN) in the Eastern Caribbean. The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) joined forces to support enhanced human security through gender equality and women economic empowerment in a resilient and value adding agricultural sector in the Caribbean.
The United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security (UNHSTF) supports collaboration amongst UN agencies and other development partners through promoting a human security application of the human security approach, by engaging in both gender-sensitive policy reform and community-based initiatives to strengthen women’s participation in core economic sectors.
As part of this programme, the UNDP Office in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean undertook a gender-responsive evaluation of the impact of structural adjustment programmes and national policies on the sector.
