Context

NRC is the lead of an EU (IcSP)-funded project in Eastern DRC, implemented in Consortium with International Alert, Search for common Ground and Justice Plus. The project’s overall objective is to contribute to peacebuilding and stabilisation efforts in the provinces of Ituri and North Kivu through the promotion of social cohesion. The project duration is 18 months, starting from April, 2022.

The project proposes to address the causes and consequences of some of the historical, land and identity-based conflicts found in Ituri and North Kivu, such as those between some farmer and pastoralist communities, power conflicts or conflicts in mining sites. Through the reinforcement of social cohesion, community reconciliation and sustainable solutions to displacement and by providing support for trauma healing, NRC and its partners seek to enhance social cohesion in the targeted areas, keeping communities at the heart of the intervention.

Role and responsibilities

The Project Manager Social Cohesion is responsible for managing the day-to –day activities of the project for NRC and is the focal point for all activities that facilitate integrated programming in the areas of operation. The purpose of this role is to facilitate overall grant management for NRC within the grant, representing NRC in the Consortium, information sharing, coordination and reporting .

Generic responsibilities:

1. Line management for NRC project staff
2. Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
3. Coordinate and manage project implementation (activities, budget and project documentation) in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements
4. Implement technical direction and ensure high technical quality of projects
5. Provide regular progress reports to the Area Managers, the Head of Programmes (HoP), the Head of Implementation (HoI) and the Consortium Director.
6. Develop and manage the project budget
7. Coordinate across NRC’s Core Competencies (CCs)
8. Support with the set-up of the Consortium
9. Represent NRC in Consortium technical working groups
10. Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
11. Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
12. Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy

Competencies

• Minimum 3 years of experience from a senior-level project management position in a humanitarian/recovery context
• Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
• Technical expertise in at least one of the implementation sector (ICLA, HLP, Civil documentation, CDR, Humanitarian Mediation, Protection and Conflict Analysis)
• Experience working in a Consortium or in coordination mechanisms
• Fluency in French and English, both written and verbal. Knowledge of Swahili a plus.
