ENV

1. Background

The Environment and Lifestyle Epidemiology Branch (ENV) areas of research on identifying modifiable cancer risk has recently expanded on a new area on knowledge translation research. The position will assist in the coordination, administrative and technical management of several projects related to knowledge transfer in cancer prevention.

The work to be conducted is funded from extra-budgetary sources. The position will allow ENV unit to achieve its IARC Medium-Term Strategic Objectives and IARC’s mission to inform populations on cancer prevention strategies, towards a reduction of the cancer burden.

2. Work to be performed

Output 1****:

Technical secretariat for several projects (European Code Against Cancer, Cancer Prevention Europe) (continuous activity for the whole period).

Activity 1.1:

  • Coordination and technical organization of meetings.
  • Managing project(s) related agendas.
  • Preparation of technical reports, meetings’ minutes and other project(s) related documents.
  • Regular reporting and timely follow up on project(s) progress, status, and outstanding issues.
  • Liaising with all project(s) stakeholders.
  • Update and manage projects’ websites, including basic troubleshooting and problem solving.

Output 2****:

Monitor progress, ensuring timely and quality performance of the project activities, including reporting (continuous activity for the whole period).

Activity 2.1:

  • Keeping timely track of project(s) milestones and deadlines.
  • Maintain appropriate internal repositories of documents.
  • Ensuring appropriate internal and external information dissemination to stakeholders and project(s) partners.
  • Developing long-lasting relationships with funding bodies and contracts managers through daily contact, discussions, workshops etc.

Output 3****:

Activity 3.1

  • Defining the project scope, goals and deliverables to support business objectives in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Identifying and recommending the internal and/or external resources required for the timely completion of projects.
  • Supporting the development of proposals for new projects.
  • Designing, structuring and delivering client reports and presentations
  • Coaching project team members and supporting them to fulfil their objectives.

3. Qualifications, Experience, Skills, Languages

Qualifications required:

Essential: A Master’s degree in Life Science or Public Health, or any other closely related discipline.

Desirable: Training in project management or business administration.

Experience required:

Essential : At least 1 year of relevant experience working in public health project management.

Desirable: Experience coordinating large-scale public health international projects.

Skills / knowledge:

Essential:

      • Excellent organisation and management skills, high attention to detail.
    • Proven ability to draft technical reports and to prepare project budgets.
    • Effective communication with internal and external counterparts, and writing skills in English.
    • Excellent computer skills.
    • Ability to understand and follow scientific discussions to summarize determine action items and timelines, and communicate key information at all levels.
    • Proven ability to plan, prioritize, work with deadlines and under time pressure.
    • Strong team play with the ability to work independently without supervision; proactive attitude to identify the needs of the principal investigators and solve problems.
    • Willingness to adopt concepts or skills to support responsibilities.
    • Experience in website content development and management, including updating of the Content Management Systems

Desirable:

  • Knowledge on cancer risk factors and prevention.
  • Familiarity with donor relations and the preparation of grant applications/agreements.
  • Experience in website/content development and programming.

Language requirements:

Expert knowledge of English. Working knowledge of Spanish or French is an asset.

4. Contract Duration

Indicate proposed contract start and end dates (tentative).

Start date: 01/10/2022 End date: 30/09/2023

5. Work Effort

12 months, corresponds to a Full-Time Equivalent of: 100 % (100% equals 40 hours a week – 4 weeks a month)

6. Total remuneration / Contract value / Payment schedule (exclusive of per diem, travel costs or other expenses)

The Amount is based on:

Rate base (monthly)

7. Place of assignment

IARC, Lyon, FRANCE (teleworking from 1/10/2022 to 31/12/2022, afterwards presence in Lyon required)

8. Travel

The Consultant is expected to travel if meetings with European Commission in Brussels or Luxembourg require attendance, but none have been scheduled at this stage.
