Result of Service The International Meeting of Mine Action Directors and United Nations Advisers is the annual gathering of member states and practitioners from the United Nations, civil society organizations and the private sector. The platform enables them to share their views of mine action matters of mutual interest and reach a common understanding of challenges and solutions at hand. The agenda of the conference is field-focused and reflects challenges faced, lessons learned and best practices in mine action. The meeting will be co-hosted by the Swiss government.

The role of the individual contractor will focus on providing reliable administrative coordination of meeting planning and preparation activities; processing work and requisite follow-up accomplished; effectively and in a timely manner, liaising and interacting with colleagues and concerned parties internally and externally.

The services will be up to five months period, subject to funds availability.

Duties and Responsibilities This Individual Contractor opening is located in the Geneva office of United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) within the Office of the Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) in the Department of Peace Operations (DPO). The incumbent will report to the Chief of the UNMAS Geneva office. Within limits of delegated authority, the Project Coordinator may be responsible for the following duties: - Assists in the coordination of the International Meeting of Mine Action Directors and United Nations Advisers planning and preparation work; monitors status of project proposals and receipt of relevant documentation for review and approval. - Serves as focal point for administrative coordination of the meeting and implementation activities, involving extensive liaison with co-host country (Switzerland), diverse service providers, obtain necessary clearances, process and follow-up on administrative actions, e.g. logistic arrangements, coordinate invitations and registration of participants, travel arrangements, process visa requests, authorization of payments, disbursement of funds, procurement of services, liaise with APMBC-ISU logistic team etc. - Ensure that all the expenses are in compliance with the approved budget and relevant rules and procedures; verifies availability of funds; identifies inconsistencies; distributes project documents to relevant parties. - Compiles, summarizes and enters data on project delivery; drafts related status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery, budget overruns, etc., and brings it to the attention of management. - Ensures smooth and efficient information flow within the project team. - Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills Experience: - Experience in programme or project administration, technical cooperation or related area is required. - Experience in planning or organizing workshops and conferences is required. - Experience in general office support or related area preferably in an international organization is desirable. - Knowledge of rules, regulations and established practices pertaining to administrative support and records management for an international organization is desirable.

Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Additional Information Established in 1997, the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) works to eliminate the threat posed by mines, explosive remnants of war and improvised explosive devices by coordinating United Nations mine action, leading operational responses at the country level, and supporting the development of standards, policies and norms. As a specialized service of the United Nations located within the Department of Peace Operations, UNMAS operates under UN legislative mandates of both the General Assembly and the Security Council. UNMAS also responds to specific requests for support from the UN Secretary-General or designated official.
