This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Candidate age: between 18 and 29 throughout the entire duration of their assignment. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Project Management officer in Beijing, the Project Assistant will:

Overall tasks

  • Implementation of project operational and administrative tasks
  • Support to procurement processes
  • Control of Assets
  • Provision of logistical services
  • Support to knowledge building and knowledge sharing

Detailed tasks

  • Facilitate engagement of key stakeholders through effective day-to-day communication and information sharing.
  • Support the organization of needs assessment and networking workshops, and international conferences and events for project promotion.
  • Support the drafting and preparation of high-quality reports and other advocacy and knowledge products as required.
  • Participate and support the research, work plan formulation, and implementation of specific activities initiated by SSTC Among Maritime-Continental Silk Road Cities for Sustainable Development Project.
  • Strictly following UNDP policy and rules, perform administrative and operations tasks as per instucted.
  • File and maintain institutional records for Project Office, including procurement processes, financial records, human resources records, and other operational matters.
  • Support the representation of SSTC Among Maritime-Continental Silk Road Cities for Sustainable Development Project on global task forces and in policy development forums, at the working level, as appropriate and requested by Project Manager and direct supervisor.
  • Log issues related to functional duties and assisting Project Manager and direct supervisor to respond.
  • Support the development of work plans and activities pertaining to project monitoring and evaluation.
  • Perform other relevant or related tasks as requested by Project Manager and direct supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Bachelor's Degree or above in international affairs, business administration, law, economics, English, cross-cultural communication, social science or a similar and/or related field.
    • Overseas studying experience preferred.

Required experience:

12 Months

Experience remark:

  • Experience in project management (financial, technical, and administrative aspects, etc.), international development, international business or a similar and/or related field required.
  • One to two years experience working at the UN/UNDP in project operations highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of UNDP operational policy and rules (procurement, travel and asset management, Atlas) desired.
  • Experience in drafting speech, and corodinating and preparing international conferences, conventions, or exhibitions highly desirable.
  • Overseas work experience or work experience with an international organization or corporation highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of South-South cooperation issues, trends and developments desirable.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and Office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Full professional proficiency in English and Chinese, written and oral.

  • Chinese(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
