The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance for relief, Safety nets including unconditional safety nets and school feeding, nutrition, and livelihoods related activities through provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers.

This position is open to qualified Somali candidates; female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the technical supervision of the Head of Beletweyne Sub-Office and the overall supervision of Mogadishu Area Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Coordinate the implementing partners and actively monitor progress, performance and ensure project deadlines and targets are met;
  • Support and train the Training of Trainers (ToT) and farmers on the post-harvest loss (PHL) reduction and access to the markets;
  • Review social and behavior change messages for broadcast using various communication channels;
  • Regular engagement with smallholder farmers, producer groups and agro-dealers to ensure smooth communications and anticipate possible challenges
  • Coordinate and liaise with internal counterparts on a range of complex matters to enable effective collaboration, implementation and monitoring of ongoing project activities;
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of data within the specific technical area of work and consistency of information presented to the stakeholders;
  • Provide specialized project management support to ensure technical support is provided as per the WFP’s policies and procedures;
  • Support the capacity building of WFP staff, cooperating partners and national government within a specific technical area;
  • Perform any other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certification in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agronomy, Market Information Systems, Environmental Engineering, Food systems or other related field is desirable.

Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience in programme work with a good understanding of agriculture value chain, post-harvest losses, market linkages with smallholder farmers or a field related to programme functions in a humanitarian context is desirable.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Somali is a requirement.​​​​​​

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Sound knowledge and ability to interpret and apply programme policies, operational processes;
  • Understanding of agriculture value chain, post-harvest losses and market linkages with smallholder farmers;
  • Experience utilizing computers, including word processing, spreadsheets, excel among others;
  • Hands on programme experience in the UN or INGOs is desirable.
