ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Assisting 91.4 million people in around 83 countries each year, the World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving Lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.

In 2019, WFP is scaling up its Yemen operations aiming to provide 12 million people with monthly food assistance through direct food distributions, vouchers or cash and nutritional support to nearly 3 million pregnant and nursing women and children under 5.

JOB PURPOSE

WFP Yemen is currently seeking a Programme Associate (Nutrition) to provide effective specialised support and technical analyses to nutrition policy and programme activities that effectively meet nutritional needs of vulnerable people. This position will specifically be focussed on supporting the WFP partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and Population

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.
  • Experience: At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience including at least three (3) years’ experience in Nutrition.
  • Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in Arabic & English languages
  • Nationality: Yemeni National / valid work/residency permit holders only

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Policy Officer (Nutrition) and the overall supervision of the Head of Nutrition, the Programme Associate (Nutrition) will be expected to perform the following duties:

  1. Provide technical support and assist in the development and implementation of various activities and processes within the specific area of work supporting alignment with wider programme policies and guidelines.
  2. Establish strong communication channels with AO programme and Field offices discussing challenges faced in GHO implementation and finding joint solutions as well as follow up for timely submission of GHOs distribution plans and FRNs on bimonthly basis including other Non-Food Items support.
  3. Provide project management support to nutrition-related programmes, projects and activities, ensuring a coordinated approach with wider programmes and projects that complies with WFP standards and procedures.
  4. Ensure timely report submission for CPDRs in regular basis from GHOs and provide a progress reports and data analysis to ensure that the TSFP activities are performed by GHO within the established as well as ensuring that the implementing supervision by MoPHP and GHOs conducted have reports reviewed and analysed and following up action points and processing/finalizing related MoPHP payments, documenting and archiving.

5. Support the preparation of presentations, reports and data analysis on nutrition programmes and policies and highlight trends/issues ensuring deliverables adhere to corporate standards and quality control in consultation with the programme IMO.

  1. Ensure and/or perform accurate, timely recording of data within the nutrition technical area and consistency of information presented to stakeholders. Including coordinate and communicate with partners and WFP field staff for timely and accurate reporting of nutrition activities including data entry into the corporate M&E platforms to ensure efficient delivery and management of food assistance.
  2. Support the capacity building of WFP staff and partners including government on nutrition policies, programmes, strategies, action plans, protocols, guidelines, manuals etc.
  3. Provide support for operational partnerships, including inter-agency collaboration, to ensure a strong response to nutrition as well as contact for resolution of a range of operational queries and problems within a specific technical area of responsibility.
  4. Liaise with internal and external counterparts to support effective collaboration and follow up on processes related to MoPHP payments
  5. Coordinate the organisation of meetings including coordination meetings of Ministry of Health, and workshops with partners, and maintain up to date database of partners.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Experience and exposure to working with nutrition and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in conducting nutrition analysis and report writing.
  • Experience in contributing to the development of nutrition-related policies, strategies, guidelines/protocols, manuals.

  1. SC holders are eligible only if they have minimum cumulative 1-year experience in WFP
  2. WFP staff who are still under probation period are not eligible to apply for another FT position.
  3. WFP staff on FT contracts must have completed one year in the current position to be eligible to apply for another FT position.
