Job Description

IRC Summary:

The International Rescue Committee’s External Relations (ER) department was formed in 2020 and is comprised of 3 complementary functional areas: Private fundraising, Communications and Advocacy. The department is in the beginning stages of crafting a new strategy that will improve IRC’s ability to ‘punch above its weight’ in private income, advocacy, and brand awareness.

Supporting this endeavor, and an integral part of ER, is the Global Partnerships and Philanthropic Services (GPPS) Unit. Reporting into the VP, GPPS consists of functional specialists across a variety of high-value (HV) support fundraising functions providing all elements of cultivation, support and stewardship to HV donors, partners, and supporters as led by IRC’s two High-Value Teams, International Philanthropy and Partnerships (IPP) and USA Philanthropy (USAP). This newly formed unit is made up of three expert-pillars:

1. Prospect Research, 2. Program Services, and 3) Partner Engagement and Corporate Affairs (PECA), all of which are critical to the advancement of our aspirational HV goals and vision.

This role will be on the PECA team. PECA engages our high value audiences across the three income streams (Corporate, Foundations and Trusts, and High Net Worth Individuals) through a number of support services including operational partnerships, gift in kind policy and practice; global workplace giving; partner engagement and visibility.

Job Overview:

This is a new position built to develop and support non-financial contributions with a strive to expand private sector partnerships beyond financial giving. It will be a critical part of PECA, driving the organization's efforts (with program operations, fundraising staff, programs and technical divisions, Research and Innovation, IT, Global Supply Chain, and others) in the management of GIK from the private sector. The Officer, GIK will collaborate with program colleagues globally on the identification and coordination of strategic in-kind giving opportunities from across the organization including goods and services to directly benefit IRC’s client populations, to yield cost savings to the organization, and to enable access to professional services to advance the IRC’s mission. The position will also collaborate with IRC’s Finance and Operations & Analytics teams on the creation of sustainable systems and processes for valuing GIK, on developing protocols to track GIK in IRC’s Salesforce CRM system, as well as for driving overall operational excellence in GIK workflows.

Major Responsibilities:

Collaborate with fundraising and prospect research teams in the identification of potential partners to fulfill identified needs as needed. - End-to-end coordination of GIK opportunities: Serve as the liaison between fundraising colleagues, internal teams and - at times - external partners to coordinate end-to-end logistics of in-kind donations. This could include: confirming whether an offer of an in-kind donation is needed by the organization; gathering collecting specs and requirements from internal program, operations and technical teams; reviewing grant agreements and supporting the review of GIK proposals and donor reports as needed; working to ensure the smooth delivery of donated goods from point A to point B; and working with fundraisers throughout donation lifecycle to understand any donor reporting requirements and ensuring ongoing compliance with those requirements with the receiving IRC unit. - Development of policies and processes: Act as the expert on private sector GIK in supplying and advising on policy development in parallel with internal operations and technical teams. Ensure fundraising teams are familiar with and following GIK protocol, including ensuring GIK opportunities are accurately tracked in Salesforce. Seek, record, and use feedback from IRC teams receiving GIK toward ongoing improvements. Develop clear and compelling donor-friendly one-pagers and other tools and materials for fundraisers to share with donors to solicit GIK. - Gift acknowledgement: Coordinate with Donor Engagement Manager in crafting and carrying out an in-kind acknowledgement policy and process. - Strategy: Together with Operational Partnerships leadership, develop annual strategy for CIK with a focus on achieving private sector engagement strategy goals; - Closely collaborate proactively with internal colleagues across departments to ensure CIK policies, expectations, and information flows between prospects/donors are clear and aligned, while developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with colleagues and IRC program and support staff globally; - Duties may also include new business development through possible identification of private sector needs and matching with internal IRC needs in support of building IRC’s private sector partnership portfolio with prospects for which GIK may be an entry point, and/or leading on select GIK relationships directly with donors; - Undertake special assignments, as needed.

Job Requirements:

- Minimum 3-5 years’ of experience in private sector fundraising, including in-kind fundraising from corporations, foundations, and/or individuals. - Knowledge of or willingness to learn in-kind accounting standards, as well as standards for in-kind giving in global humanitarian and development contexts - Experience in directly developing policies and/or influencing processes across diverse constituents - Experience or curiosity about working with finance and supply chain operations in international humanitarian settings - Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills, and experience collaborating across with multiple individuals and teams in a sophisticated working environment - Problem solver who can comfortably navigate unchartered territory with unexpected challenges - Strong skills in time management; good at multitasking; organized - Experience working with Salesforce or another CRM and related technologies within a fundraising environment - Knowledge of humanitarian action and international development
