Scope and impact

The outcome-based approach (OBA) is a way for us to realize our vision of becoming a truly people-centric and outcome-oriented organization. Through this approach, we seek to achieve the outcomes we have prioritized together with people affected by armed conflict and violence that will have a lasting impact on their lives. In practice, it means that we focus more consistently on outcomes (benefits, results and effects) rather than just outputs (goods and services) when we plan, design, implement, monitor and evaluate our responses.

Making this vision a reality requires that we work together with affected people, cooperate across departments and engage with partners and other stakeholders within and outside the Movement in an inclusive and participatory way, in an even more systematic and coherent way than we do today.

The OBA program, launched in November 2020, leads and supports the ICRC’s efforts to become systematically outcome-oriented. It brings together the OBA programme team in Geneva and a diverse group of colleagues from the field and headquarters who are all working on the different OBA projects in a co-creative and evidence-based way. The programme is co-sponsored by the Office of the Director-General and the Department of Operations

This role provides support and expertise to all projects and workstreams of the OBA program.
