Background and responsabilities 1. Contribute to the development, management and implementation of activities in the field of earth sciences and provide tools to improve the application and monitoring framework of UNESCO Global Geoparks. 2. Contribute to the governance of the International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme, by supporting the reflection on the assessment of geological heritage of international value and support the training of evaluators. 3. Prepare a planning and follow up on the outstanding evaluation and revalidation missions of the expert evaluators. 4. Prepare scenarios and programme for the 7th UNESCO Global Geoparks Council, as well as the draft report after the UGGp Council sessions 5. Plan and prepare promotion and training events for UNESCO Global Geoparks in areas where the concept is less known (Africa, Arab States, Central Asia, SIDS), in particular for the presentation of UNESCO Global Geoparks at the IUCN African Protected Areas Congress in Rwanda and an African Geoparks Workshop in Tanzania and in supporting the UNESCO GGN Geopark grant laureates. 6. Provide expertise on database development for UNESCO Global Geoparks as well as in communication material. 7. Contribute to the organization of the 50th anniversary of International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme and the side events related to it, as well as for the celebration of the first ever International Geodiversity Day. Long Description ---------------- B. Expected outputs 1\. By 31 July 2022, the consultant shall submit his/her activity report to UNESCO for approval, notably: 1. Prepares the assessment of the applications for the UNESCO GGN Geoparks grant for Africa, Arab States and SIDS and set up feedback meetings with applicants. 2. Present the contribution of UNESCO Global Geoparks in the development of Geological Heritage Research in international events. 3. Set up assessment scheme for evaluators and collect relevant information. 4. Provide scenario and collect documents for the 7th UNESCO Global Geoparks Council 2\. By 31 August 2022, the consultant shall submit her activity report to UNESCO for approval, notably: 1. Set up follow up meetings with applicants and partners in the GGN Grant for SIDS and Africa. 2. Provide an overview table of evaluators and corresponding revalidation and evaluation missions, including of the aspiring UNESCO Global Geoparks. 3. Provide a complete overview of all evaluation and revalidation reports received and make them available to the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council; 4. Provide a table with the distribution of the mission reports per UNESCO Global Geoparks Council Member Related materials ----------------- 3\. By 30 September 2022, the consultant shall submit her activity report to UNESCO for approval, notably: 1. Provide support for the follow up meeting with the UNESCO Global Geoparks Youth forum. 2. Participate in the organization and logistics of the 7th session of UNESCO Global Geoparks Council (UGGpC) at the 7th Asian Pacific Geoparks Network Symposium in Satun UGGp in Thailand. 3. Prepare elements for UNESCO’s participation in the European Geoparks Network Conference at the Sesia Val Grande UNESCO Global Geopark. 4\. By 31 October 2022, the consultant shall submit her activity report to UNESCO for approval, notably: 1. Prepare a draft report of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council session. 2. Provide logistic and content support for the organization of the 50th anniversary of IGGP on 4 October 2022 and the related side events, as well as for the celebration of the first ever International Geodiversity Day on 6 October 2022. 3. Provide an overview table of pending missions. 4. Provide a full programme, list of participants and invitation letters for the 1st African workshop on UNESCO Global Geoparks. 5. Prepare UNESCO’s contribution in the intensive course for UNESCO Global Geoparks, in consultation with GGN. 5\. By 30 November 2022, the consultant shall submit her activity report to UNESCO for approval, notably: 1. Provide a complete overview of all evaluation and revalidation reports received and make them available to the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council. 2. Provide a table with the division of the mission reports by Council Member for the ad-hoc 7th UGGpC meeting. 3. Share an organized public folder with the reports from the missions to analyze at the ad-hoc 7th UGGpC meeting. 4. Participate in the organization and animation of the first ever UNESCO Global GeoParks workshop for UNESCO Global Geoparks in Africa 6\. By 31 December 2022, the consultant shall submit her activity report to UNESCO for approval, notably: 1. Prepare organization and logistics for the 7th Ad-hoc virtual session (continuation of September session) of UNESCO Global Geoparks Council (UGGpC). 2. Prepare a prefinal report of the 7th UNESCO Global Geoparks Council, including both sessions 7\. By 31 January 2023, the consultant shall submit her activity report to UNESCO for approval, notably: 1. Define a checklist for national commission on how to support UNESCO Global Geoparks from the collected information at the workshop in Africa. 2. Undertake the first screening and prepares the intergovernmental check for the new UGGp applications. 3. Collect communication material of the new designated UGGp sites 4. Present scenarios for the evaluation and revalidation missions of 2023. 5.
