Office/Unit/Project Description:

The regional project on “Anti-Corruption and Integrity in Arab Countries” is implemented in partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) over a four-year period from 2019 to 2023 to serve three main objectives: (1) Support the development and implementation of laws required by the UN Convention against Corruption; (2) Institutionalize corruption prevention methods at the level of priority government sec-tors to enhance their effectiveness and (3) Mobilize knowledge and capacities to contribute to the achieve-ment of SDG 16 through support provided to the Arab Anti-Corruption and Integrity Network.

Among other key activities planned for 2021-2022, the ACIAC regional project is supporting the efforts of ACINET to engage its members, remotely, through up-to-date news-style reporting on key global, regional, and country developments related to anti-corruption and integrity. Also, it is taking actions to set up a regional center of excellence for ACINET that supports the effective integration of anti-corruption and integrity in SDG implemen-tation strategies; in connection with it, a periodic newsletter will be established to inform and engage the cen-ter’s clients and partners. In parallel, with the COVID-19 pandemic limiting face to face interactions, the re-gional project is working on improving communication and engaging better with its stakeholders on the ground. In doing so, it is building on the regional communication team recommendation to develop communi-cation tools to better disseminate the work done by ACIAC and UNDP Country Offices in the Arab States re-gion.

Taking forward the objectives below and based on the agreement with the leadership with ACINET, UNDP’s regional project, ACIAC, will be developing a periodical news update on anti-corruption and integrity for a five-month period. For this purpose, UNDP is seeking to hire a news and media consultant, with a political and economic background, to contribute to the production and dissemination of this news update.

Institutional Arrangement:

  • The individual is required to exhibit his or her commitment to this assignment with UNDP;
  • S/He shall perform tasks under the general guidance of the and direct supervision of Chief technical advisor of UNDP’s regional project for anti-corruption and integrity in Arab countries. The supervision will include approvals/acceptance of the outputs as identified in previous sections;
  • The individual is required to maintain close communication with UNDP on regular and needed basis at any period throughout the assignment in order to monitor progress. In the event of any delay, s/he will inform UNDP promptly so that decisions and remedial action may be taken accordingly. Delays that would affect the flow of the collaborative work and the delivery of outputs on schedule will lead to termination of contract; and
  • Should UNDP deem it necessary, it reserves the right to commission additional inputs, reviews or revisions, as needed to ensure the quality and relevance of the work.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work:

  • Monitor relevant websites and social media outlets on a regular basis to identify key developments and major initiatives and events related to anti-corruption and integrity at the global and regional levels as well as at the level of Arab countries;
  • Identify, propose and conduct interviews with key stakeholders including senior officials, practitioners, experts and civil society representatives to feature newsworthy developments, current issues, good practices and lessons learned in the area of anti-corruption and integrity;
  • Propose and develop content for a periodical news update on anti-corruption and integrity to be disseminated to ACINET and its partners and friends;
  • Support the dissemination, promotion and gathering of feedback on the news update from ACINET members and regional project’s stakeholders and relevant media institutions.

Required Skills and Experience

Min. Academic Education:

  • Master’s Degree in political sciences, economics or social sciences; or
  • Bachelor’s Degree with additional 2 year experience.

Min. years of relevant Work experience:

  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience in communications and coordination based on Master’s degree; or
  • Four (4) years of relevant experience in communications and coordination based on Bachelor’s degree;.
  • Track record working with reputable news organizations.

Required Language(s) (at working level):

  • Outstanding communication and writing skills in Arabic;
  • Working knowledge in English or French, with the other language being an asset.
