Overview

Assist in managing food access program and engage community members

You have:

  • Ability to obtain an AZ Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
  • Bachelor’s degree or coursework in local food systems, community development, nutrition, public health or other related field
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement, particularly with disadvantaged communities and related to food access or nutrition, preferred
  • Prior experience teaching or facilitating workshops/trainings preferred
  • Prior experience working with refugees, immigrant or pre-literate populations in non-traditional setting preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • A flexible schedule and ability to travel to various offsite locations
  • Bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages of the local client base is desired

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist New Roots staff in managing the CSA produce box program at CamelBackyard - Coordinate with New Roots growers to aggregate produce - Conduct outreach and provide nutrition education resources to the community - Recruit and enroll refugee clients in Navigating a New Food System program - Facilitate interactive training modules for Navigating a New Food System Program - Administer client surveys - Support community engagement and educational activities - Assist the New Roots Local Food Coordinator with ongoing program tasks as needed

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

- Develop organizational skills - Build communication skills while engaging customers and community members - Learn about nutrition programming throughout the valley - Develop a working knowledge of how to assist refugee clients in learning about the American food system - Implement logistical planning and time management skills in a dynamic environment - Design curriculum to expand client mastery of the “Navigating a New Food System” program - Build outreach and networking skills in working with a predominantly non-English speaking population

Qualifications REQUIREMENTS:

Note: This is an unpaid internship. Intern must commit to at least 10-15 hours per week for a 3-month minimum. Internship hours are completed between Monday and Friday from 9:00 AM-5:00 PM and may require some Saturday availability for Farm Stand activities.
