Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. With presently 194 member states, FAO works in more than 130 countries worldwide, including Vietnam where the Organization has operated since 1978. The current Country Programming Framework (CPF) for the period of 2022 2025 has four priority areas: (1) One Health (OH); (2) Climate change response, environment and natural resources management; (3) Food safety, sustainable production and consumption, and equitable livelihoods for all; and (4) Governance, Gender and PWDs. The incumbent’s tasks will mainly contribute to the fourth priority area.

Reporting Lines

The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative in Viet Nam, the direct supervision of the International Senior Technical Coordinator of Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Disease (ECTAD) and in close coordination with FAO ECTAD team including national specialists and government partners to contribute to the successful implementation of the UNJP/RAS/398/EC project in the country by undertaking the following tasks and duties:

Tasks and responsibilities

• Develop the work plan for the implementation of the national field survey to identified wildlife captive facilities in Viet Nam; • Develop detailed field survey methodology and consultation with the Viet Nam CITES Management Authority (CITES MA), International Cooperation Department (ICD) Ministry of Agriculture and Rural development (MARD) and other relevant SAFE project stakeholders; • Present the workplan and field survey plan at the National Advisory Committee (NAC) Meeting for consideration and approval; • Conduct training for members of the survey team; • Conduct the surveys according to the workplan agreed between the stakeholders; • Analyse the data obtained from the survey and draft technical report; • Participate and present results; • Prepare final technical report; • Undertake other duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• Master degree in wildlife conservation and management or related field; • At least ten years of relevant working experience in collection and analysis of wildlife management information; • Excellent writing skills in both English and Vietnamese; • National of Viet Nam or a legal resident in the country.
