Organizational Setting

FAO mandate in Georgia is to support national efforts to promote food security and sustainable development of agricultural sector. FAO priorities in Georgia reflect the objectives and priorities of the Government set in the strategy papers related to agricultural development. In essence FAO assists the Government in creating and implementing an institutional, legal and regulatory environment. At the same time, FAO supports individuals working in agriculture – farmers, cooperatives, companies etc. by providing technical and financial assistance.

Reporting Lines

The Project Assistant will work under the overall supervision of the Programme Coordinator, and the direct supervision of the National Dairy Specialist based in Zugdidi.

Technical Focus

The Project Assistant will assist the National Dairy Specialist and Project coordinator in creating and support a network of Demonstration plots in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti.The Project Assistant will provide technical, administrative and logistic support to all extension activities undertaken in Samegrelo Zemo-Svaneti under the project.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Assist in identification and selection of farmers for each demonstration plot • Participate in the Needs Assessment in each potential location for Demonstration Plots, to define the strategies of extensions through the Demos, topics of training, etc. • Organize and plan exchange visits, field trainings, field days, sharing of practices, support field visits when required • Provide administrative and logistics support required for training and demonstration foreseen • Manage deliveries to and from the Field Office storage, and inventory of items/equipment • Support the Project coordinator and National Dairy Specialist in the preparation of work plans, workshop updates and the project reporting • Assist in monitoring implementation of activities to achieve project outcomes • Provide technical support to national M&E officer in setting up and implementing projects’ monitoring systems in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti • Keep good communication with other team members, responding promptly to others’ requests • Other duties as assigned.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• University degree in Agriculture, Veterinary, Livestock Production, food safety. • Working experience in Agriculture, Veterinary, Livestock Production or food safety sector. • Two years of relevant experience in project management, managing field projects in the sector of animal husbandry, food safety or technical support to farmers. • National of Georgia • Working knowledge of English • Knowledge of Megrelian is an asset
