Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO representatives, is to assistant governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner to ensure zero hunger in the country. FAO provides support in three priority areas: sustainable increase in production and productivity, agriculture-based economic growth, and increased resilience of livelihoods to threats and crisis.

The current portfolio of projects in South Sudan includes activities related to agriculture (crop), livestock, Fisheries, Natural Resource management, food information systems is implemented with humanitarian, transitional and development funding. The incumbent will contribute to the country’s programme and portfolio as foreseen in the project he/she will coordinate and be assigned.

Reporting Lines

The Logistics Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Logistics Officer.

Technical Focus

  • Support strategic transportation plans to the field offices and distribution areas by the FAO Heavy cargo fleet operating in various modes of transportation.

  • Maintain Heavy cargo fleet related records and filling system of documentation.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Provide logistical support for the receipt and distribution of inputs and assets procured under various FAO projects/ program in South Sudan;
  • Endeavour to ensure logistic activities are carried out in time to support field project activities;
  • Ensure all FAO Heavy cargo fleet are well equipped (Communication equipment, tool box etc.;
  • Ensure proper maintenance and management of vehicles and drivers such as repair, maintenance monthly mileage check, usage purposes as well;
  • Follow up of accidents/incidents with the police, informing insurance company, prepare and send all relevant document;
  • Ensure that all vehicle logbooks are properly recorded by drivers and fuel consumption monitored;
  • Prepare regular reports to fleet management after consolidation of information from field offices;
  • Prepare ITAs for drivers going on field mission;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma/ in logistics, supply Chain management, Procurement or related field.
  • Having practical experiences (5 years) will consider academic qualifications (secondary level)
  • Three years (3) working experience in logistics fleet management, supply chain management.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • A South Sudan National.

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Possession of a valid South Sudanese Driver’s license;
  • Strong computer skills such as ability to use MS Office (word Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint) as well statistical skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of mechanics/auto repairs.
  • Experience with fleet management and or inventory management software is strongly desirable
  • Familiarity with UN administrative, operational and financial procedures is an asset
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Working knowledge of English and Arabic will be an added advantage
