Organizational Setting

FAO mandate in Georgia is to support national efforts to promote food security and sustainable development of agricultural sector. FAO priorities in Georgia reflect the objectives and priorities of the Government set in the strategy papers related to agricultural development. In essence FAO assists the Government in creating and implementing an institutional, legal and regulatory environment. At the same time, FAO supports individuals working in agriculture – farmers, cooperatives, companies etc. by providing technical and financial assistance.

Reporting Lines The National Project Personnel - Communication works under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Georgia, the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative in Georgia, in close collaboration with National Communication Officer and FAO staff in Georgia, as well as the REU communication team, and in accordance with FAO’s corporate communications policies and donor visibility guidelines.

Technical Focus

National Project Personnel - Communication supports FAO projects in all information, communication and visibility work.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Prepare news items (press releases, news stories, newsletters) of various formats (electronic, printed, web) in Georgian and English in accordance with FAO writing style guidelines (formatting, fonts, index, acronyms, spell check, headers and footnotes) and visuals (pictures, graphics, infographics, etc.); • Participate in the design and rollout of awareness campaigns for different projects; • Develop and edit visibility materials (banners, leaflets, tri-folds); • Develop video, as well as photo materials covering FAO activities in Georgia in collaboration with OCC. This includes maintenance of a photo library, sharing edited and captioned content with FAO Photo Library, according to technical guidelines provided by the Photo Unit; • Develop content for social media; provide support in administrating social media accounts; • Participate in field visits and facilitate media visits to the FAO project sites; • Participate in planning and organization of public events (conferences, presentations, training, officials’ visits, field visits, etc.) in line with FAO and donor visibility guidelines; • ensure compliance of all products with: FAOSTYLE (English: https://www.fao.org/3/cb8081en/cb8081en.pdf); FAONOCS https://www.fao.org/nocs/en; FAO terminology http://www.fao.org/faoterm; Publishing at FAO – Strategy and guidance http://www.fao.org/3/I7429EN/i7429en.pdf; FAO Brand and policy book. • Ensure that all publications and documents to be disseminated via the FAO document repository are timely processed through the corporate Publications Workflow System (PWS), from their planning to production and dissemination. • Work in constant contact with the Publishing Group at FAO and ensure that all corporate publishing standards are adhered to in publications and documents. • Translate communication materials from English into Georgian and vice versa. • Prepare briefs based on the technical project documents. • Perform other related duties, as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• University degree (MA) in communications, public relations, journalism or related discipline. • 2 years of relevant work experience • Working knowledge (Level C) of English and Georgian • National of Georgia • Working knowledge of Russian is an asset

• Very good knowledge of the MS Office package, the Internet, photo and document editing software • Hands-on experience in administrating and creating content for social media accounts. • Hands-on experience in developing communication and visibility materials, strategies and plans • Experience in writing, editing and reviewing the texts in Georgian and English
