Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

In Indonesia, UN Women works with government, civil society organizations, academia, the media, the public and private sectors to address national priorities of gender equality and women’s empowerment. UN Women Communications work on the implementation of the UN Women corporate communications strategy, as well as in design, management and implementation of the Country communications and publication strategies, which are geared towards awareness raising of gender equality and the empowerment of women, and promote public and media outreach, to include campaigns.

To support the effective implementation of the communication plans and activities of the programmes, UN Women seeks to hire qualified individuals to provide support in the area of communication and social media. The consultant for Communication and Social Media Support covers primary tasks as outlined below and works in daily coordination with the Advocacy and Communication Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities

SCOPE OF WORK, SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall guidance of the Advocacy and Communication Officer, the consultant will undertake the following tasks:

Ke****y Duties and responsibilities:

Provide support to the implementation of Country Office (CO) communication and advocacy strategies

  • Support in the implementation of communication plans.
  • Collaborate in planning, monitoring and reporting of communication activities;
  • Support in planning and organizing campaigns, press conferences, briefing sessions, and other events;
  • Contribute and ensure the visibilities of events, campaigns and key activities;
  • Assist in media outreach, media inquiries, monitoring and maintaining press clippings of print and online media when UN Women is mentioned;

Provide support to the implementation of CO communication and advocacy materials

  • Support in developing communication materials, such as press infographics, fact sheets, briefing materials, etc;
  • Draft stories and web articles;
  • Maintenance of information database and photo library;
  • Review translations, contact with printers and other suppliers to ensure production.

Provide support in the management of the CO social media presence

  • Draft, prepare, and schedule content and posts for the social media accounts.
  • Research additional content (articles/ news/ posts) on women’s empowerment and gender equality and draft the post.
  • Assist in the creation of editorial workplan calendar.
  • Manage, engage, and actively expand the network of followers.
  • Monitor social media accounts, monitor questions and comments, mentions, and cross-post selected content.
  • Create, produce or support the production visual assets (quote cards, multi-media graphics, social media video, etc).
  • Support live tweeting from events.

Other

  • Undertake general administrative assignments and logistical support;
  • Assist the Advocacy and Communication Officer with any other relevant duties as may be assigned.

CONTRACT PERIOD AND WORK LOCATION

The period of this consultancy is from May 2021 to January 2022. The consultant will be based in Jakarta, Indonesia and work home-based and at the UN Women Indonesia Office or partner offices as required.

EXPECTED DELIVERABLES

The consultant will work under the direct supervision of Advocacy and Communication Analyst, UN Women Indonesia.

Required Skills and Experience

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree (Bachelor’s Degree) in communications/ media studies, journalism, humanities, international relations, social sciences or other related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum one year of relevant work and/or volunteering experience;
  • Relevant knowledge and experience in working with social media management and monitoring: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc;
  • Experience in event management, online outreach and multimedia would be an asset;
  • Experience in design, photo, video editing software would be an asset.
  • Understanding of gender equality and women’s human rights would be an asset;

Language Skills:

  • Fluency (written and spoken) in English and Bahasa Indonesia is required.
