The Position:

Reporting to the Intergovernmental Affairs Team Leader of the Intergovernmental, Interagency and Policy Dialogue Branch (IIPDB) in New York, the Multilateral/Intergovernmental Affairs Specialist will play a critical role to ensure strategic positioning of UNFPA in the intergovernmental fora. The Intergovernmental Affairs team, located in the Intergovernmental, Interagency and Policy Dialogue Branch, Policy and Strategy Division (PSD), supports the Organization in delivering its mandate, mainly in strategic positioning of ICPD issues in intergovernmental processes and in guiding UNFPA’s positions in intergovernmental processes related to the ICPD, Nairobi Summit and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

Advanced university degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, International Relations or other relevant fields.

Knowledge and Experience:

At least 7 years of relevant and increasingly responsible professional experience in development and multilateral affairs, of which 3 years at the international level. Strong knowledge of the United Nations, the Economic and Social Council, population policies and dynamics, human rights, global health and gender equality desirable.

• Knowledge of ICPD agenda and related intergovernmental processes and negotiations essential.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as proven experience in intergovernmental processes, negotiations, facilitation and reporting;

• Innovative and sound judgment;

• Dedication to the United Nations principles and demonstrated willingness to work as part of a team.

Languages:

Fluency in English is required; knowledge of other official UN languages is an asset.
