The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster.

Its External Relations (ER) department was created in early 2020 and is comprised of three complementary functional areas: Private Fundraising, Communications and Advocacy – functions that work together to enhance IRC’s ability to ‘punch above its weight’ in private income, advocacy, and brand awareness.

Supporting this endeavor, and an integral part of ER, is the Global Partnerships and Philanthropic Services (GPPS) Unit. GPPS consists of functional specialists across a variety of high-value fundraising support functions providing all elements of cultivation, support, and stewardship to high-value donors, partners, and supporters.

The candidate has an exciting opportunity to join GPPS’s Prospect Research & Management team and advance our aspirational high value (HV) goals and vision. Today, high-value income makes up for more than two-thirds of the IRC's private-sector revenue. High value fundraising is comprised of two front-facing fundraising teams: USA Philanthropy, responsible for engaging with high-net-worth US-based individuals, and International Philanthropy & Partnerships, responsible for engaging with corporations, foundations and other institutions, as well as globally-based high-net-worth individuals. The delivery of outstanding service and expert functions from GPPS across all HV teams globally will be a critical enabler to the continued success of our HV fundraisers.

Job Overview:

Prospect and donor research is the foundation of high value fundraising, providing insight and recommendations to the fundraisers to make informed data driven and timely decisions progressing prospects through the donor’s journey in line with the IRC's priorities. Our work supports the organization’s sustainability by finding opportunities for funding, focusing our resources, and protecting its reputation through due diligence. We empower fundraisers and our leadership to make effective, donor centric decision-making.

As part of this team, you will directly impact IRC’s global private fundraising efforts by providing high-quality donor research and input to HV fundraising through deliverables such as research profiles, capacity ratings, due diligence reports and market research, and collaborating with members of the team, other strategic partners, as well as fundraisers. You will contribute reliable and timely qualitative and quantitative data and trend analysis to support the IRC's mission.

As a member of the Prospect Research & Management team, the Manager will participate in team-wide international projects, support team operations that strengthen prospect research and research systems, work to improve team functions, and elevate the team’s role as strategic partners.

Major Responsibilities:

- Create capacity ratings, conduct biographical and philanthropic research on donors and prospects; - Write confidential research profiles on individual and/or company and trust & foundation donors/prospects for meetings and planning; - Provide due-diligence research reports on individuals, companies and trusts & foundations; - Write market research reports such as on industry sectors, countries or competitors; - Proactively seek and apply insights from fundraisers and other partners to identify improvements; - Promote teams’ services to colleagues through guidance, trainings, and reports; - Support special projects such as electronic screening by vendors and news alerts system; - Additional assignments as directed by supervisor

Job Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree or 3-4 years of successful and relevant professional or volunteer experience. - Several years of work experience in prospect development in fundraising - Working proficiency (written and spoken) in English - Demonstrated skills for analyzing and interpreting data and for synthesizing complex information from multiple sources - Experience with Salesforce or other relational CRM (customer relationship management) system - Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint - Proficiency in internet search engines and advanced search techniques - Superb organization and detail orientation

· Abides by APRA Principles of Ethics and Compliance

Preferred Experience & Skills:

- Working proficiency (written and spoken) in German - Knowledge of other European languages - Strong verbal and written communication skills - Excited by challenges and opportunities for problem solving - Ability to prioritize and deliver on time in a fast-paced environment, sometimes with limited guidance - Flexibility and perseverance; shown ability to work effectively in an international team setting and independent environments, and the willingness to meet unexpected demands with positivity - Ability to act with sensitivity and discretion while working with highly confidential information - Knowledge of fundraising regulation UK/EU data protection regulation - Interest and experience in due diligence research - Prior experience working at an international organization not required but would be an asset
